Just wait until the absolute joy that is booting up a cold-soaked Airbus in the wintertime in Alaska.
Funny you should mention that... There as a memo that went out recently about a maintenance procedure to pre-heat Airbus engines at temps colder than 32...

Like +32 degrees F? I'm not well traveled on big high bypass engines but I've never heard of that. That's not even cold.

Is it bad I like that scheme on the airbus?
Yes. Yes it is.
My bad....

I'm not gonna lie. This thing looks really good in the AS livery.

The only people that hate the airbus are people that haven’t flown the airbus.

Carry on hating.

That said- I’m surprised they’re keeping the airbus fleet.

They are repainting and re-doing the interiors on all of the Airbuses. That said, there is still no official long term fleet announcement. VX owned about 10 Buses and the rest were leased that are due up 2020-2024. Now that all corporations have received a major tax cut/benefit, IMO Alaska will most likely place a new aircraft order. Either we get more NEOs and still keep the Airbus going forward long term or we start replacing Buses with Boeings. IMO the tell will be what happens to the 30 A320NEO order due 2020-2022. If they cancel that, then the writing is on the wall to go all Boeing. But for the time being and several years to come, the Buses are going to be here.

It's a new thing put out by CFM for the LEAP-1A engines on the 321NEO. It does not apply to the rest 319/320 fleet.

We don’t allow ours to become cold soaked. We just run the APU all night with the packs on. (Below -15)

Absolutely worst airplane to deal with in sub zero temps is the CRJ. Considering it’s built in the Great White North, by a snowmobile manufacturer, you’d think that was the one place it wouldn’t have any trouble.
I was in Minnesota a couple weeks ago and it was -25C and we had to run the APU for 30 minutes before the air data computer started responding. We called maintenance and apparently it’s a pretty common thing. He told us to call back in 40 minutes if it still doesn’t work.

Looks better than that turd rocket they call the 73 or are you a "proudly all Boeing" guy already?

Looks better? Nah. The rounded nose of the Airbus looks like the front of an actual turd.

I was pretty deeply entrenched long before my ATP had any B-Anything on it. I'm a 3rd generation Boeing guy. Dad works for Boeing. Grandpa worked for Boeing, and was an engineer on the design team of the 747. Uncle worked for Boeing. Other uncle worked for Boeing. Cousin worked for Boeing. A good number of my friends work for Boeing.

My Boeing-superiority comments are largely tongue-in-cheek, both companies make fine hardware. But still, it'll be a cold day in hell before I voluntarily bid an Airbus, if only to avoid the abuse I'd receive at family gatherings. ;)
