Proper Way To Request Takeoff Clearance?

At CDW (Caldwell, NJ) and when VFR, the tower wants to know which way you are heading after departure. "Caldwell tower, Centurion 5276C ready for departure 27 heading northwest". If IFR, "Caldwell tower, Centurion 5276C ready for release runway 22".

This thread has made me think about how I state that I am ready to depart. Twice yesterday I tried “NXXX holding short of XX ready to depart”. Both times I was told to
“hold short of XX” this was at two different airports.

Over the last year I have noticed that I now have to read back my full N number when I read back my clearance. They also like to hear NXXX cleared WORTH5 ABI transition ABI direct. In the old days I would say NXXX WORTH5 ABI direct but now I have to say transition. I would think when I say WORTH5 ABI it would indicate that I was taking the transition but no longer. ABI and WORTH are just examples it is the same wherever I am going.

I guess you can teach an old dog some new tricks.

and why not....are you DANGEROUS?!?!?!?!?
I was, but now I'm reformed.

I'm a little disappointed I had to be the one that whipped this oldie out. Don't anyone dare post anything against me on this, you were all dying to say it.
