Private Checkride

Just curious, can you use electronic flight computers for the planning portion of the private checkride with the examiner?

Don't see why not. They are approved flight computers. As the thread over in the main forum suggests, I would know how to do the stuff on a manual E6B just in case the dude asks. If he fails you for not being about to use a manual E6B, complain to the FAA. Seriously.

The typical 'simulated' problem I've heard come up with people who use electronic E6B's on a checkride is the examiner will say, "oh no... your batteries are dead... what're you going to do now? And whoops, you forgot your spare batteries at home." I think that's a fair question of an examiner. Definitely know your slide-rule E6B well also, just in case. My advice: Take 'em both with. Leave your old fashioned one in your flight bag, and don't take it out unless you need to.

Ok, I'll def. take both. Its amazing how much easier and quicker the electronic one is to use /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

"Postpone the flight a few minutes and go to the store across from my FBO and pick up 4 AAs..."

Somehow, I think that would get you a pink slip
