As I'm building hours and getting closer to the next step in my career, I thought it would be a good idea to request my "complete airman file" from the FAA. Weeks later I received the info. It said nothing, absolutely nothing, about any of the checkrides I have taken (I have one bust). All that was stated was that I had no accidents/incidents/violations. Is this the same document airlines will see when they request my records?

Also, I requested to see my 141 records from my boss, the chief pilot at our flight school. He said that the records (that included performance on stage checks and end-of-courses) were thrown away after 3 years of your last stage check/end-of-course with the university, meaning my records didn't exist anymore.

I'm going to be completely honest about my failure (it was one of the best learning experiences of my primary training), but I thought I'd share this information with anyone interested. Not that it gives you permission to be dishonest...it absolutely doesn't, but it if anything, it should prompt anyone who is curious about what's on their record to get information straight from the source (FAA). Just like your driving record, you should know exactly what is on your flying record. That's the way I see it.
 
Did the information you received include written scores and 8710s? If not, it sounds like a PRIA request, not a "Blue Ribbon" file. FAA Form AC 8060 will result in a much more comprehensive inquiry and takes about 6 weeks for OKC to process. That's why you'll see airlines initially hire someone based on their word and a cursory PRIA check, but will yank them out of ground school several weeks later.

Starting next year, the FAA should have its new database running, which will immediately show any incidents, accidents, and disapprovals. As you said, honesty and learning from failures is the best policy!
 
When I requested my complete airman file it can in two mailings. In 4 weeks I got some boring letters that said I didn't have any violations. 4 wks after that I got a huge packet with everything that I ever signed my name on, medicals,8710s, etc... I would say wait a bit and see if you don't get a second package before too long

That's pretty much how I got it too. Long time ago though.

Would an FAA Form AC 8060 have any administrative action on it? I am still unsure what technically is administrative action but I know it shows up in some application processes. A few years ago I had received a FSDO letter then got a talking to by a FSDO guy. The guy I talked to was really positive and acted like there was nothing to worry about but I guess that I should know exactly what records exists if the question comes up.
