Pressure altitude while in route

Sorry for my newness in the fourm as I didn't know where to put this.

Anyway I'm having a Homer Simpson moment here. I'm confused on how I need to figure the pressure altitude while I'm in route. Should I use any airports in the area that report metars and do my calculations from there or is there another way?
 
Pressure altitude is read by changing the Kollsman window to show 29.92, which can be done at any time during flight. If you're referring to density altitude, it's the pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature and pressure. Using the appropriate calculations you can find density altitude (i.e. E6B calculator).

Indicated altitude is read after setting the altimeter to the local altimeter setting, which you can usually obtain by the local controller or automated weather information. This is done en-route throughout the flight.
