To all the CFI's on JC:

I want to get my CFI a present for helping me pass my check ride. Is there anything out there that all CFI's need in that $150 range? Any good gift ideas?

Thank you in advance.

CB

Wow you're going all out! Maybe 150 dollars :). I was always greatful for a hand shake and a sincere thank you. Believe me, your CFI is as happy as you are that you passed.

Trust me...anything above and beyond are hourly rate means a lot. Don't think about it to much.

Just trying to be nice. The dude is a good guy and did a great job. I know a lot of you guys work hard and I thought he might like something other then the check I hand him each week.

Any ideas for flying related gift?

Trust me at this point we have enough flying related crap. Something nice like a gift card to best buy or applebees would be much better. Cash and booze always suffice too. :)

Got it.

Any ideas for flying related gift?

You fly him to another local airport and buy him a good lunch or dinner. Maybe an airport nearby has a museum and you can take him out for a day? Or something else along those lines.

Item wise, if he is an electronic buff you can probably get a really nice electronic E6b for under 100.

If your aircraft don't have push to talk (PTT) buttons, david clark makes one that is amazing for 80 bucks. Something most instructors wouldn't buy on their own, but would love to have if they are often in aircraft without them.

Thank about gift certificates to places that aren't frivolously expensive, but somewhere he could take his wife or date for an evening out. Something on the order of Applebee's or Red Lobster. The typical full time CFI doesn't have much discretionary income and a night out is a real treat.

cash!!!!:D Seriously A gift card to a nice restaurant enough to make it a really nice out with someone would be great! I would imagine most cfi's dont run around taking girls/wife's out on $100 dinner dates!

or, pilots/cfi's like sunglasses, but cannot afford really nice ones. that would be cool too!

I bought my CFII those set of glasses from the Sporty's Wright Bros. Collection - you know the ones - "Unusual Attitude" with the upset Attitude Indicator on it, and other plays on aircraft instruments.

And some Guinness to fill those glasses with.

Just don't drink and fly, because you may spill it!

Oh man, cash would be great right about now. :insane:

Like some others have said, maybe something other than aviation related. A gift card with enough to take a significant other along would be nice.

I know you are thinking gift, but cash would be much better.
He may already have the gift and a "remove before flight" shirt just is not called for!

Some guys around here get a bottle of something.
