Preparing for dispatch school?

All great advice so far. However, much of it hinges on your aviation experience/education so far. I have plenty to recommend, but it all depends on your your background. So what's your aviation background? If it's none that's perfectly ok. All of us started at that exact point at some point.

Very good post. I'm 38 and seeing your post is encouraging. I know I can give someone a solid 20 or more years of hard work, but my age has worried me at times. But......after a few TBNT's I've got some interviews lined up and hopefully I'll break through soon.

I'm hoping for the best for you! I can tell you it's possible. Don't worry about your age...it has not once been an issue for me. At almost 42 I've landed at what hopefully will be the last job I ever need. ;-)

Thank womanpilot73. I think I gaining some traction slowly but surely.

I'm new here and wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave advice here. I'm looking at changing careers and going to Jeppesen for the dispatcher course. Just like a few others here, I'm in my late thirties (37) and was a bit hesitant to look into dispatching because of my age. However, after reading a few of the threads on this site, I'm not as reluctant to seriously change careers.

I've done tons of research on both Sheffield and Jeppesen and just feel that Jepp is a better fit for me. I do have to say though, that Eric from Sheffield was quick to respond to my emails. In the end, I'm not available to start a course until Sept and Jepp has a course starting Sept 7th.

I would like to ask anyone that attended Jepp if I can PM you if I have some questions?

Hi all. I've been lurking on this site for sometime now. I'm currently a ATC'er in the Army (I'm active duty) and will retire here in about 18 months. I've been doing research on DX schools and have talked to IFOD over the phone and visited Jeppesen (I was in Denver doing college visits with my son). I emailed and spoke with Mr. Jeremy Vincent before I arrived out there. He took time to discuss his program, what they went over, showed me all the books you are issued(!!!!), and answered all my questions. Too bad there wasn't a class in session. There is a lot of good info on this site, I thank you all for sharing!!

Womanpilot73, would it be ok if I PM you?

Welcome! And yes, feel free to PM me anytime. :-)

Both JayD and myself completed the program at Jeppesen and have our licenses! We both were also hired during the run of the course. I will have the pleasure of working at Skywest with a class date late in September. Thank you to everyone here who has offered advise and/or support during this time!

I'm 47 and finished Shefield in October of 2011. I'm in my 2nd year at a major and am so glad I changed careers. It can be done, best advice is from womanpilot - be ready and happy to relocate, and know the money will be tight for a few years. Welcome to the party.

I have the pleasure of starting at Elite Airways. Congrats to us and our hard, worthy, work! Congrats!

Congrats to JayD and Chris. I'm starting at Jepp on Monday. Can't wait to get out there and start the course. Any last minute tips you can share about the course?

Hello all. I am also looking at the dispatch programs at Sheffield and Jepp. I've spent the last 10 years at Publix and don't really see much more advancement in terms of pay. I've wanting to do something in the field since I was little, and feel this is the easiest and quickest way.

Sheffield would be my preference, as I could make the 1.5 hour drive there and back from my existing home. However, my husband and I have friends in the Denver area, and would look at temp housing there to attend Jepp. I have read on another thread about how Sheffield crams the 5th and 6th weeks worth of material together. I'm going to need all the help I can get, so having a full 6 weeks could be more beneficial.

Regarding the ADX, I know Sheffield includes it in the tuition and administers it there. Does Jepp not include it with theirs? Also didn't see a 2016 schedule of class dates for Jepp yet so not sure when those will be finalized.

This board has given me some good insights. So I appreciate anyone's imput.

I don't really have any tips aside from some minor QoL suggestions, like don't carry books you are not using at the time everywhere, take advantage of your hotels amenities like a grill on site. JayD in particular was good about using a hotels amenities ;)

And make time to do things around Denver with some people from your class. I wish I would have done more around town.

It is included in Jepp's course. For additional info on class dates, contact jeremy.vincent@jeppesen.com
