Pre-solo written??

I am comming up on my Pre-solo written and was just wondering what kind of questions are asked on this test?

The test should cover everything in 14 CFR 61.89 and include some general questions out of the first section of part 91. Reckless operation, minimum safe altitudes, right of way rules, airspace requirements, preflight action required, etc.

There should also be some questions on V-speeds, aircraft systems basics, use of aircraft performance charts, as well as a few operational questions. For instance, the test we use asks "when should a go-around be initiated?" (whenever any crewmember feels a safe landing cannot be made). The test should also include a few questions about emergency procedures. 30-50 questions is about the right length.

The test should also be take-home/open book. After the student completes the test, the cfi will sit down with them and go over their answers, correcting any which were answered incorrectly and helping the student find the answer to any which they couldn't find on their own.

About how long after taking this test do you actually solo, I know that there is no single answer b/c it depends on YOUR individual learning pace but in general how long after?

I remember I handed my instructor the test, we went over it, then I solo'd about 15 minutes later, had around 10 hours I think.

I don't think they give you the test if you aren't pretty close to being ready for solo, but I could be wrong.
 
My pre-solo written was given to me a few weeks prior to solo as a 'take-home' test. We went over it orally once I finished. No pressure, no time constraints, no worries.

It's been a while, but I remember that mine consisted of the same stuff as everyone else has told you. Lots of stuff about V speeds, what to do in emergencies, airspace, and so on.
