pre commissioning physical after PRK?

So I had PRK back in October and I know the wait time is one year following that before I am eligible to fly for the reserve and also take my commissioning physical. Here is my predicament, I have had a squadron invite me to come visit them in January and even though I wont officially be applying to that squadron until closer to the end of 2010 they have asked me to go ahead and bring a completed packet out with me to give to them. A part of that packet is a pre commissioning physical. Am I not eligible for the pre commissioning physical due to my surgery? I wasn't sure if the one year limitation included pre commissioning physicals or just commissioning physicals. If I am not eligible I was wondering if I could get some advice from the guys and gals that have been through the process, what should I do? I figured I would let the squadron know that it wont be included and I can have it completed as soon as I'm eligible, anyone recommend any different?

All advice on the subject most welcome!

By "pre-commissioning physical" I'm assuming you mean the physical you take at MEPS in preparation for your package. I can't remember exactly what the 1 year wait exactly means, 1 year from FC1, MFS, MEPS, or other. I think/thought it was 1 year between the date of the surgery and MFS at Brooks but I might be wrong or it could have changed. That being said you'll probably need to talk to your recruiter about it first and clear it through him/her. They should be able to give you better info anyway.

I had LASEK almost 2 years ago and did the standard 1 year wait before even submitting a package as I couldn't find a recruiter that would take me seriously before the 1 year mark. I took the physical at MEPS before submitting without any problem and am about to take my FC1 in a few weeks. Thus far I haven't had an issue with the surgery. The only thing I would be worried about is, since you just had the procedure in October, you're still going to be healing and not 100% to say the least. I'd just try explaining the situation to the unit and let them know you might need some more time, they should be understanding (if they like you).

If I dig up some better/current info I'll let you know.

Explain the situation and see what they have to say. It's a looooooong process even after getting the gig, so they might not care.

sorry I was a little vague, I was referring to my MEPS physical. My understanding was also that it was before I went to Brooks but I just wanted to be sure. I'm trying to get in touch with my recruiter to verify. I'm supposed to go out on the 9th of January, once you get your physical scheduled do you pretty much walk out with all the documentation you need the day of your physical or is there some processing time involved? I'm going to try to get the physical scheduled sometime next week.

Should be ready to go when you leave, but those will be unofficial copies you get. Shouldn't affect you since you need to wait for your eyes, but it takes at least a few weeks for all that crap to get to Brooks. By the way, I didn't have my MEPS physical done until after I got picked up and I think that's pretty normal.

Oh and one other thing - Wear briefs or boxer briefs to MEPS. No boxers or you will be dragging your nuts along cold tile during the duck walk (seriously...ask Frogflyer).

For us AD guys I had my MEPS physical done before submitting my package and . . . . I myself wore boxer briefs ;)

I just shot a quick email off to the contact in the squadron I have been working with to see what the squadron preference was. I left a voicemail with the MEPS office today so hopefully they get back with me tomorrow.

What's the duck walk thing about? Just a check to see if you're out of whack or something?

I'll take the edited version sans Frog's nether regions. I do enjoy a good night's sleep.

just spoke with my contact at the squadron, he said unless I have any medical problems not to worry about it. Now I just have to get this packet together!
