Well, after starting out in the bush in a tailwheel and then moving to Anchorage and finishin up in the middle of Pt 93 Airspace, I passed the PPL checkride on Thursday. I did a 'mock checkride' with another instructor the day before and totally felt like I screwed it up, but the ride itself was as close to perfect as I've ever seen myself fly.

Gotta love it....

Anyways, now down to Orlando for a while. Might have to get a 172 checkout to take the folks up, or maybe a Katana just for the fun of it. Any Air Orlando folks around here?

YAY! congrats!

I suppose if you can fly and get your ppl in alaska, of all places, you can pretty darn near fly anywhere huh!?

Yes and no. In FL I won't have to deal with icing or snow or any of that nonsense, but there's a lot more airspace issues to deal with. For example, the closest Class B airport to here is Seattle, a couple thousand miles. At Orlando Executive, I believe it's underneath the MCO Class B.

But yes in the sense that you can't really screw around with weather and terrain up here, as say compared to Florida. The xc possibilities are great though. My first with my instroctor was MRI-TKA-MRI, basically in the shadow of Denali on a very clear day. My night xc was MRI-ENA-MRI, as well as my first solo xc. My long xc was MRI-ENA-HOM-BCV-MRI. Gotta love it.....

If you guys (or anyone for that matter) ever decide to make it up here again, let me know, I'll give you a few reccomendations. Heck, make it late summer and I'll give Doug a Mountain Checkout....

Oh you know it....

And if I may hijack my own thread, where in Daytona are you? I grew up in the area (Ormond & Port Orange mostly)

Congrats and well done.

Didn't work at Air Orlando (I worked up the road at Orlando Sanford - SFB) but my buddy was asst. chief pilot there for a while. He's at Expressjet now.

Anyways, fly safe.
