PNCL Stock - What goes up, must come down.

Thanks Pinnacle for the new stock tracker on our company web site. It lets me know that currently the stock is down 35 cents.

Is this stock just bloated for no reason? We are about to lose flying, but not lose staff. But then again we are going to have massive growth. Hmmmm

Rumors of United flying along with the "We got a TA with the pilots" pumped it up. I'm actually surprised it hasn't come down since the TA was voted down. We were kinda thinking there was gonna be a big surprise announcement on your side of the operation that might explain it. Well, it was a surprise, but not in a way that we thought it would be.

I just heard a rumor that we may be hiring in january. I find it very hard to be true, has anyone else heard this rumor?

Are they saying its just to recoup some of the FO's we lost? I just find it interesting that we would even think about hiring at this point.

Colgan hasnt gained any flying, in fact only lost it.

We just ran a class. The QOL and pay is just so pitiful that people are making that decision to leave. My seniority number just went up 5 places in the past month. With a pilot group as small as ours, thats alot.

Seeing as we are "min coverage" now it will be bad in the spring as the marketing hours come up with either the economy or the usual rise. I am far more interested in how the nov/dec bids will look with many of the junior folks timing out after a year of 90+ hour lines. We need more CA's and FO's- we have had some attrition (not a large number but enough for a couple upgrade and NH classes) and we are always short with little room to spare for any irregular ops that may come up. The business model is keep costs down and they do a good job, but many times it results in losing money on completions (Cx due to staffing) and delays due to getting crewmembers the min rest because they can't call in someone fresh. I'm not a bean counter so who knows what corp is thinking or leaning towards. I have heard we would be doing some hiring but I have been hearing that for a few months and there still isn't a vacancy. We will hire at some point (it's inevitable), the question is when and how many.

The numbers I heard were about 30 people this year to date in attrition. I also heard up to 100 to be hired. I find it odd to hire 100 when you only lost 30. It is a good thing to be hiring, but what can be offered to the NH? Upgrade is years, growth is questionable, reserve for more than a year is a given. Not the best picture to prospective new hires and you can count on them setting the competitive qualifications really high.

Honestly guys, it's bad all around.

Clearly pure speculation, but I think once the marketing numbers come out for the Spring and Summer seasons next year, a lot of DCI RJ operators will be in for quite the surprise.

I sadly feel though that they won't properly forsee the increased demand, much less an honest assessment of properly staffing one's company, that they'll fail to get guys back into a cockpit in time.

Well, in addition to the timed out line holders, they won't be able to extend a lot of the reserve guys. I know in MEM, we've got several FOs already at or over the extension in a year limit. Now, I know the Pinnacle way is schedule it tight and extend/junior man guys to cover what's left. I haven't had a home reserve day I wasn't called for a trip or to sit at the airport for 9 hours in at LEAST two-three months. It's normally 3-4 months, and I'll get ONE home reserve day in a month I won't get used, rinse and repeat. This year, I've maybe had 4 home reserve days I didn't get a phone call. Add to that scheduling doesn't really know how to handle irops unless they've got 400 people sitting at the airport doing nothing. This is why they have the "Use them or loose them" mentality when it comes to reserves. If you've had an 8 hour RR night and were scheduled to be done at 8 or 9 am the next morning, you can bet dollars to donuts they're gonna take 4 more legs on to you pushing you to the 12 hour limit just in case they need that other reserve (and they likely will). Pass benefit changes, from what I hear, have made it harder for guys to get to work.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an upgrade class and 1 or 2 new hire classes. I've heard the rumor (from several sources) as well. Like everything else, I believe it when I see a vacancy.....and a class.....and those guys get off OE. Like Ken said, we're already at min staffing for the SLOW part of the year. Spring/summer hits, and we're gonna need those extra people. Hiring in Jan puts new hire FOs on the line right as summer is starting. It'll probably be too late for the spring break bump, but if they push 'em, Easter is a possibility. CA upgrades can be done in about half the time, though.

And honestly, I don't think we'd have any problems getting applicants in this environment. Look what happened to Colgan when they opened their hiring window. Reserve for a year, slow movement and a 5 year upgrade probably won't stop HR's desks from getting mail bombed.

I have already had 2 friends approach me about turning in resumes, thats how desperate people are right now. I called HR and they said nothing, but what would they say right now. If the classes are to start in january, they will have to announce something by december you would think.

I think it's "hiring in Jan," so I'd guess any interviews would be put off until after the holidays. They'll have to re-hire people to train them anyway. Bonus for me is this means a lot of those check airmen flying the line in MEM might be back in the sims. Good for them since they'll be home rather than on trips. Good for me....well, I was ABOUT to say "might be able to hold a high speed line," but then I woke up. :)
