Plane hasn't flown in 10 months

I am going to be flying a Cirrus for a company who has had their plane parked in a hangar for the last 10 months or so (I believe the last time it flew was for its annual last June). It has not been moved, much less run at all in the time since then, and none of the appropriate preparations were made prior to parking the airplane for an extended period of time.

I am mainly concerned about the engine sitting that long without being run, so what specific inspection(s) would be advisable prior to flying this airplane again?

It really shouldn't be an issue, especially if it was hangared, but throw the battery on a charger and make sure that it will take a charge, be prepared to buy a new battery when it wont. Wash it, lube the flight controls, look for bird nests or other undesirables for that matter. Have someone wash the engine down. Then take it on a test flight for an hour or so and exercise all the systems. You should be good.

Agree with the above. I'd do a real thorough preflight and runup. Then do a once around the pattern and then check it over. And then I'd try to plan my flight to give me the best options for a forced landing for the first couple of hours. No night flying and stay away from the mountains, if possible.

I agree with the above responses. Also check, double check, then check again for water in the tanks. Once the battery is charged (or changed) and you do some ground runs (including taxiing around) check the tanks again for water.

Stay close to the airport for the first hour or so just to be safe.

Why? I have a parachute... ;)

Thanks guys. Sounds like the owner has agreed to doing the annual early, so hopefully that should catch any smaller things as well.

Still do the test flight. Gyros/radios/electronics that sit tend to go bad or have glitches soon after you start using them again.

I knew of an airplane not flown for 10 years or more, the plane never arrived to the destination on the ferry flight:bang:...........
