Piper\'s new panel

We were getting some work down on that Navajo at the maintence shop yesterday and I walked by a Piper 6XT with the glass panel that a guy had just turned on, I guess he was checking it. I started talking with the guy and he let me get a picture of it, figured you guys might want to see what it looks likes. Ended up being the first Piper 6XT shot at a.net and the first shot of a Piper with the glass panel.

Here it is

Re: Piper\'s new panel

Holy CDI's batman ... they even have a back VOR/GS indicator .... overall pretty slick. Now, I wonder how it is at night ....

Re: Piper\'s new panel

Probably killer at night. Though Mike would probably be able to give a better idea of what it's like to fly at night with an all glass cockpit.

Re: Piper\'s new panel

We have a little 5" moving map color GPS on our pannel ... and it's too bright at night ... can't imagine a full panel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Piper\'s new panel

I'm sure it is ... but so is ours. When you have that much glass (that requires light to display info) even on it's dimmest settings it might not be enough. I actually made a "shade" to go over ours to help cut down the brightness.

Now, the one big deifference is that this panel is entirely glass ... where ours we're still trying to see "steam guages" with little/no individual lighting. I'm sure that makes a huge difference.

Re: Piper\'s new panel

Though AviDyne gets points for being first out of the gate, I think I like the Garmin offering better.

Very Nice. Wonder if it has CTRL+ALT+DEL if all goes wrong.

Nah, it's running Mac OS X. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Sweet. I always wanted a unix command line in my cockpit.

Seriously dude, but have you ever gone into a terminal window and looked at how Apple split up everything across the mount? I thought finding things in Linux was confusing, OS X dosen't make ANY sense. Heck, I was trying to install an update to OS 10.2 for someone and the way it unpacked the file was to uncompress it, mount it (that's probably the most confusing part), and then not give me permissions to the directory. I think "Cool! I'll just do a su - command and chmod the directory so I can execute the file." Nope, wouldn't let me do it. Those guys need a little more experience with Unix 'cause right now the terminal is jacked up.

Cheers

I'm mostly impressed with the two Bose headsets in that pic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buck.gif

I was wondering if any one would notice that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Piper\'s new panel

Isn't it amazing how that cockpit has a much better avionics package than probably 75% of airliners flying today!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

But it's very nice, I like it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, when you can afford $443,000 for a plane (with avidine, no other options) I think an extra two grand isn't that bad /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Piper\'s new panel

More like $550,000 - $590,000 for a 2004 PA32 with those avionics. At least the three I found on google fell into that range.

I heard 350,000 for them from SkyTech. This is the new 6XT, not the Saratoga.
