I've seen what you describe in both military and civilian aviation. Re-read my post, I'm almost in total agreement with you.....except, there are some things that some of us would never do. I would never PLAN on violating a FAR. So, if the "guy" you like to reference is a guy that PLANNED on violating a FAR, I can say I won't be THAT guy. We all make decision-making errors and we all make stick-and-rudder errors. There is no shortage of ways in which I might die with my hands on the yoke or stick. I'm describing aspects of character. I'm not going to beat up my girlfriend and I'm not going to PLAN on violating a FAR.Ive seen it in the civilian world and I've seen it in military aviation.
Sidebar: When I hear the P-51 that flies out of Louisville approach, I drop everything. Must be a thrill. I've seen Snodgrass take one through its paces a few times.
