Don't know if everybody had heard this, but pinnacle took a UND student / instructor, (just hired by und this semester,) with about 280 total time yesterday. (will leave his name out) Along with 15 - 20 other instructors.

I wonder what desk they found him under. .. doing what naughty things one would be doing. . .

/me sits back with popcorn. . . where is that emoticon!

"But-but-but-but........but, he took 1st place in aircraft recognition on the flying team and had a 4.0 GPA and always sat in the front of the classroom asking and answering questions" :D

It's pretty obvious that you guys don't know who this person is...

I'll agree, the TT does seem a little low, but this isn't the first time people have been hired with not much TT. Congrats (name witheld)!

Some of you guys on this forum really need to get your self a reality check. Though 280 hours is low for most airlines, there is no federal regulation for FO at a airline to have a certain amount of hours. Also the point is that the person who did get hired is not going to be flying the CRJ tomarrow on a revenue flight. He is going to training and learning the standards and jet operation required for pinnalce airline operations. I congratulate to the person who got the job. Good luck man and will see ya sometime down the road.

Likewise, there is no regulation that says we have to approve or accept this practice. It has nothing to do with the applicants themselves, but has everything to do with (regional) airline policy and ethics.

on a related note... what exactly is pinnacle starting these pilots PAY at???

14 bucks an hour??

yeah, sounds like an awesome deal!! big shiny jet!!

I'm a firm believer that TT isn't always indicative of a pilot's skill/experience, etc...HOWEVER, at 280TT, the student just got done flying Seminoles, and the transition to a jet from a small airplane for a pilot that has only flown this multi-engine plane for a few hours for the sake of stage-check completion is ridiculous. And if this pilot is really that good at flying, then why on earth do we not have him/her as a fighter pilot or an acro pilot. Those are the jobs that need these excellent pilots.

I don't know who it was, but either way, congrats to the person who got hired. He/she must be pumped, and I don't blame'em.

edit: omg, I was almost forgetting. I'm sorry, but if I were an airline, I would NOT trust a 280TT pilot to be flying my passengers, when the only environment he/she has been exposed to is the GFK bubble. My god, the experience you get here is SOOOOO not real-world! I say this from experience.

and lets not all kid ourselves... no matter how awesome you are, im not sure id trust MYSELF at 280TT and only (or at least MOSTLY) have been flying in the UND bubble world, to have a jet full of passengers behind me.

i dont believe that after having ~250 hours in UND bubble land that i am going to be 100% prepared to do real-world flying right off the bat. im sure there will be a transitional period to adjust and apply book knowledge to real-world situations.
