A job worth having? WTF? I understand that the job conditions have to be workable but what do you say to your wife and kids..
'Hey there honey, lost my job today'
You have to analyze the risks v. rewards very carefully!
I understand you have to analyze the situation carefully...but you tell me - take a look at what NWA is being paid now...and the concession that mgmt wants.. then come back and tell us how you think your wife/kids would react (if you had them)....
Keep in mind that you've already given up to possibly 50% of your salary, some work rules and other items that add to your (technically) salary.. this time, they want your pension (which could be thousands of dollars) and another ?% of your salary plus maybe decrease in per diem, vacation and worst of all - to end your union contract... who knows what else (if anyone can find me the information - this could be a really good "problem solver" challenge)....add to that a schedule of 4 days on, 3 days off...working mostly weekends because your seniority isn't quite high enough since the airline hasn't been hiring...add to that..your wife is a stay at home mom, your son's birthday is coming up but your working that day AND your daughter has a recital that you promised to go to but scheduling just called you in due to reverse callup (calling from high seniority down) and you, being a dummyhead, picked up the phone...
if you think of anything else that should be added to the situation, go ahead..
then analyze the whole effect and you tell me whether it'd be worth it to lose a total of possibly 75% of your pay + pension (+ whatever other scope clauses there are) yet keep a "job" or to at least try to take a position and STFD with your pilot brothers/sisters so that you and your family can enjoy the fruits of your labor by having good scope, work rules and pay (not to mention that union contract!!! which is extremely important)!
keep in mind that another 25% loss in salary + FULL loss of pension would mean that your wife would have to go back to work and children would have to go to daycare or all day school (not old enough yet for regular school)...
I mean why should we who have been in the industry so long keep trying to help you understand when really, it'd be pretty easy to do your own research and come to a conclusion based on the facts of the situation?
I'd be interested to know what you come up with!
