Pilots Schedule

Can some pilots please tell me how thier schedule is?
I would like to know how a regional, corporate and major airlines schedule are!

thanks!

First off... welcome to JC!

You are going to get a lot of varied responses to this question depending on what each person flies, where they are in seniority, which company, staffing, which segment (fractional, airline, cargo) and how their company is doing. It can vary from 8-20 days off a month!

Me? Currently a regional captain on reserve. I get 10-11 days off a month, which isn't very much since I commute between DEN-ORD. When I was a relatively senior FO I had about 15 days off a month on average. I won't be seeing those kind of numbers for a long time now :)

Regional FO, very low in seniority, on reserve.

4 days a week on call (usually from 3am-6pm, meaning the company can call me any time between those hours and I have to be at the airport within 2 hours), the other 3 days are off. Works out to either 11 or 12 days off (depending on if the month has 30 or 31 days).

In the 7 months since I finished training I probably actually work 10-15 days a month. June was my busiest month (I was actively trying to get as much trips as I can and had a trip carry over from the previous month) and I worked 17 days. I think February was my slowest month and I worked 5 days. The other days I'm on call but not on a trip I'm just sitting at home watching TV/playing online/at the park getting some exercise waiting for the phone to ring.

A couple of things to note about my situation: I live in base (1 hour from the airport parking lot, so I can sit reserve at home), my base is slightly overstaffed, I'm getting furloughed in 2 months.

I am at a Legacy carrier, I am on the bottom of the list sitting reserve. We are on reserve 19 days a month. Each month we bid for days off. Next month I work the first 13 days of the month, get 11 days off then back for the last 6 days. We have long call and short call reserve, but it is awarded daily. You might be long call one day, short call the next, and then back to long call. If you live in base it is nice. I commute so I try to get the trips that go to my hometown.

At my regional, I spent a lot of time on reserve as a captain living in base. I prefer the long stretches over the 4 on 3 off, 5 on 2 off schedules we had there.

I'm a captain at SkyWest and I usually get 15-16 days off a month and mostly 4 day trips.

I am a somewhat senior FO at my base JFK. Been here (OH) for two years. I get 14 to 15 days off a month. I commute from Florida but can bid trips that allow me to commute on both ends of my trips. With my company funny-lowing about 300 pilots in Sept. I think I might go back on reserve.

it might be a good idea to read some of the perspective articles on the main menu. There are a lot of articles there that go into specifics such as scheduling.

Well, I just upgraded to CA, so I'm low on that side of the list. I'm still on "reserve," which means I vary from doing nothing to be gone all the time. Here's what a typical week looks like for me:

Mon 10:00-20:00 -- reserve period
Tue see Mon
Wed see Mon
Thur OFF
Fri OFF
Sat see Mon
Sun see Mon

Now, I might get called sometime between 1000 and 2000 to do anything from a quick out and back to a full on 4-day trip. Now, the days I'm off, I'm generally off. So, if they DO give me a trip, I have to be back before Thur (using the above example). They CAN extend me into a day off, but there's things that go along with that like an extra day off next month, premium pay and they have to release me as soon as I get back in base.

I'm hopeing for a "high speed" line sometime in the next few months. That means I'll get the trips that leave at like 7 pm and get back at 8 am, but I'm off for the rest of the day. Both those lines and the reserve line have 10 days off a month.

Not sure if you want to know what a 'monthly schedule' looks like or what a trip/pairing looks like. Either way, here is a trip I did not too long ago, just to give you an idea.

I am relatively senior in base (top 15% or so) and this is my typical pairing this month. I am a commuter so note that my first day starts at 0505 which means I leave the night prior. I took a fedex flight that departed BOS at 11PM and got to EWR at 12:30AM and hung out in the crew room from 1am until my showtime. I got done at 1:30PM on day 4 and was home by 5:00PM.

Wouldnt mind that Miami or Orlando overnight in the above post though.

Thanks for the schedules guys, but what the devil do all those numbers mean (apart from the dep/arr times)??

Legacy airline pilot:

I fly only once a month........on a thursday...........a one day trip [known as a turn]........Atlanta to Cancun, then deadhead back.

They pay me.............oh, I don't know............about $350,000 a year to do that.

When not flying, I like to go swimming in my Scrooge McDuck -like vault of money, while laughing at poor people and lighting my cuban cigars with $100 bills.

Don't believe me?

Well just ask my neighbors, my flight attendants, or any airline analyist or journalist. They'll tell you!

Note that I work 13 days for 97 hours!

This is where you all should aspire to be - where the work curve and the time-off curve meet...

It's only taken me until I'm 49 to get there!

LOL!

Gonzo, do you guys have a trip rig that gives you more than 11:28 for the trip?

As lineholders we'd get a daily pay guarantee for that at least unless it was assigned to a reserve, who they can give "line credit only" (which sucks).

My next month is like this:

1 Fri--off
2 Sat--off
3 Sun--off
4 Mon--work
5 Tues--work
6 Wed--work
7 Thurs--work
8 Fri--recurrent ground
9 Sat--off
10 Sun--off
11 Mon--work
12 Tues--work
13 Wed--work
14 Thurs--work
15 Fri--off
16 Sat--off
17 Sun--off
18 Mon--work
19 Tues--work
20 Wed--work
21 Thurs--off
22 Fri--off
23 Sat--off
24 Sun--off
25 Mon--off
26 Tues--off
27 Wed--work
28 Thurs--work
29 Fri--work
30 Sat--off
31 Sun--off

It turns out to be 16 days off and 84hrs of credit. I bid in the top 5th of my base. I would have spread the 6-day block off out a little more evenly, but my cousin is getting married and I allowed for recovery and travel time. Everything is commutable, so with the exception of the night before recurrent (it's in base, so I have to spring for a hotel) I'll be at home every night I'm not at work.

To CJC 400 pilots;

Have they started letting you bid on schedules or are they still assigning them to you?
