Obviously, I was striving for a bit of exaggeration license on my 99.9 percent mortality rate with Ag pilots. I simply wanted to indicate that a lot of Ag pilots have accidents. As you may already know, mortality rate is typically expressed in units of deaths per 1000 individuals per year. It is a per unit time expression.

Can you break it to me a little more clearly? Are you suggesting that 100 percent of airline pilots die each year? Or, that 100 percent of airline pilots die? I don't mind a clever retort, just want to clarify your need to do so.

I think it was a quip on the fact that the mortality rate in general is 100%.

That would mean we are all mortal which is quite different than mortality rate.

I think the joke has been stomped and trampled but...

"Mortality rate is a measure of the number of deaths (in general, or due to a specific cause) in some population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit time."

If the cause, and unit time, are undefined then yes as mortals we have a mortality rate equal to 100%.

I am posting this against my better judgment...don't do it ..don't do it....

They call it mortality rate because data exists to measure it, otherwise it wouldn't be a rate... So, if the cause, unit time and population size are undefined, we don't have a mortality rate at all. To say we are all mortal is understandable. To say that is the same as a 100 percent mortality rate is simply wrong. I am now through with this silly issue and on to better things.
