Pilots and Tattoos

Now, just to prove your point is correct. I have 2 tattoos, ride motorcycles, have smoked, chewed tobacco, gambled, drank, smoked doobie, had unprotected sex with multiple partners, and quit a $60,000 a year job to be a pilot. So I guess you are right, we are ####ing idiots, and you are far superior.

DING DING DING! We have a winner!

Yeah, I am not much for telling people what they want to hear. Some people here do not appreciate my candid posts. They want me to be a yes man, and agree with them all the time, or say nothing. Be that as it may, you will always know where I stand.
Sounds like someone I see in the mirror everyday.

Hey when did this thread creep away from tatoos to Gays in JC? Does every thread have to be about gays all the time?

I'm gonna put it like this. There are 10 guys all sitting around in a room talking about their wifes or their girlfriend. Well one of the 10 when asked about his girlfriend says I don't have a girlfriend I'm gay.

No, it's more like "There are 10 guys all sitting around in a room talking about their "wifes" [sic] or their girlfriend. One of the ten, when asked about his girlfriend says, "You can be my girlfriend, I'll bet you're secretly gay. Come on, admit it, you love men!" To which the accosted individual responds, "Um, no, I'm most certainly not gay" To which the other individual responds, "Thou dost protest too much! You must be gay!11111".

We don't go out there and try to convince you and others that you're straight all the time.

Let me cite the "Advice for two students" thread where the o.p. had a username of "flygirl" and mentions the word "girlfriend" in her post. Now, it may be the platonic use of "girlfriend" but nobody wigged out about it, because she didn't throw it at anyone, just casually mentioned it in conversation. She didn't make a big deal out of her sexuality, just like most of us people with wifes [sic] and girlfriends do.

But just for you, I'm going to change my sig.

Here's a summary.
Killtron: Tattoos are dumb
Communists: They are an art form
Killtron: Dumb people get them to fit in
Communists: I know a couple smart people who have them
Killtron: That doesn't change the average
Communists: You're a tool

So, you're calling a guy who's a commissioned Army officer a communist? Dude, he has put his ass on the line for your butt, and you call him a communist?

You want to call me a commie, go right ahead. But have the decency to not do that to people who have taken an oath to protect your right to spew such stupidity.

I do fear for America's future after reading your nonsense.

Ok but I think most tattoos are done just to fit in
Smartest thing you've said yet. And true. These days, tattoos are not so much a symbol of expressed individualism but rather one of what's called "uniform non-conformity".

Dr Seuss' "Star-bellied Sneetches" illustrates this beautifully.

From the SkyWest overshot landing thread:

Well hopefully for the pilots sake, they didn't get canned. It would be ashame to work so hard to achieve that dream of flying for an airline and have it taken away by a poor decision.

And that, my friends, is why tattoos are not a good thing if you plan on a flying career. They simply give an interview team a reason to question your judgment.

What if it's a tattoo of the airline's logo?

I'm sure there are a bunch of Westair, Indy Air and Pan Am guys that would be hesitant to reccomend that.

Well Dough market forces have dictated that their tattoo's were unacceptable to the paradigm shift that is occuring today. They obviously didn't plan for the future and because of it, they're huring today. Now mind you if they would just shut up and accept capitalism as the hand of God they might better accept the new market relaignment that is taking place today. But because they are a bunch of lame communists, they're sitting there with their lame tattoo's instead of siezing the day and making less than minimum wage at a new regional airline, where they can get a new tattoo!

What I love about this system and capitalism is that they don't have to straighten up and fly right. I would love to see drugs legalized and everyone who wants a tattoo get one and indulge in any other kind of self destructive behavior they want. I honestly want that to happen, you think I want to stop people from getting tattoos? I don't want to tell people what to do. But I also don't want to fix their mistakes. There was a program in Santa Barbara where unemployed people could get tattoos removed for free. No one should have to pay for what someone else did on their own free will. What I would do is let them remain unemployed and take away any other government benefits they have and let them starve and die basically. It wouldn't be anyones fault but their own. I can tell you're missing the point if you think I want to close down tattoo parlors or whatever.

See, I'm a civil libertarian as well, but getting a large visible tatoo and trying to enter such a conservative-appearance industry such as the airline business is dumb as hell. Do it if you want, but don't give me the "Dear Dough, I wanted to be 'rock 'n roll' by getting a tribal tatoo that covered my arm and Pinnacle didn't call me back after the personnel interview, should I sue?!"

In almost 13 years of professional aviation, I have never seen an airline pilot with a tatoo visible in uniform. You might be able to get away with it, but I certainly wouldn't give any HR guy a reason not to hire you for some petty reason.

Of course, they'll never tell you *why* they didn't hire you.

I have 2 tattoos, had 4 airline interviews which resulted in 4 job offers, however they arent as visible as Allen Iverson's

oh and a college degree to offset some of the other generalizations on this thread...

ever think that maybe you just hang out with losers and low-lifes?

Where is it? A lot of the people I know who have a tattoo couldn't be trusted with a 500 dollar car or even a sharp pair of scissors.
