Pilotless Airliners (what do you think?)

I hope that doesn't happen anytime soon.

Being my luck I will get hired on for my dream job with Fed Ex or UPS....then they'll tell me......look kid.....we don't need you anymore, the computer can do it.....I'll just tell them to watch the movie Stealth !!!! :D

Nope. Why would one want to take a train from LA to NY for over 15hrs(unrealistically assuming nonstop @ 200 mph) when they can fly it for 4? Trains do not work well where we have the infrastructure in the NE. What makes you think that we will spend the money to create it? Trains work very well in a commuter environment, but not in long distance travel.
Maglev technology is on the verge of 400mph+ systems (Japan is considering building one) and it would operate at much better efficiencies then aircraft. The way things are going now with the economy and environmental concerns, trains, even with reductions in speed, are probably the way of the future. Not only that, but labor is much cheaper. Train travel does not involve any white collar, professional labor unlike the airline industry. As I see it, the only way airlines as a mass transportation system will survive (they'll always be there for luxury travel) is if ultra efficient, possibly even non fixed wing technology (airships), advances are made. Seeing as we've been stuck in the same tired paradigm of airliner design for about 50 years now, I doubt it. Speed in ALL transportation methods seems like it will be subject to a trade off for efficiency.

Haha. This thread is kind of depressing. What about us up and coming airline/cargo pilots.....I just want to live the dream ! :sarcasm:

Cuz we all just wanna be airline stars
Live in slum flop houses driving old junk cars
The girls run screaming but my callsign’s sweet
We’ll all stay skinny cuz we just can’t eat

Hey hey I wanna fly an RJ :rawk:
