top 10 paying jobs

Sure, just pay 50 thousand for all the ratings, make slave wages for ten years, have people constantly trying to crash the plane while being a flight instructor and building hours, then spend a couple months away from home making 20000 a year at the regionals, lose your job and get furloughed a couple of times, and if you're able to keep an aviation medical all those years, then make 100000 as an airline pilot before you have to retire in two years!

Linky no worky.

Mavs' right.

I started flying in 1987 and "broke even" sometime in Y2K.

That's funny, when I pressed the link for "pilot", most of the jobs listed were for "Pilot Travel Centers LLC". I didn't know you could make so much money at a truck stop...

Interesting how they didn't show the average wage/hour for pilots.

But lemme see, 240 hours away per month x 12 months = 2,880 hours of work per annum.

99,400 (estimated salary as per MSN) / 2,880 hours = $34.51 per hour

We wouldn't even make the list!

Here's another crock o' •!, (probably where MSN got their numbers from)...this one brought to you by the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics.

This is how they define "Commercial Pilots", who supposedly make $55k+ per year, according to the BLS:

[ QUOTE ]
Pilot and navigate the flight of small fixed or rotary winged aircraft, primarily for the transport of cargo and passengers. Requires Commercial Rating. Include aircraft instructors with similar certification.

[/ QUOTE ]

Then theres a whole seperate listing for "Airline Pilots".

How do you become a millionaire in the aviation game?

Begin as a billionaire.

I know your away from home around 240 hours a month, but some of these hours you could be sitting in your hotel room watching tv. Should this really count as work?

Hell yeah! Biiig time!

Depending on the layover city, it can be like serving time in prison. I had a 29 hour layover in KJAN in the middle of nowhere by the freeway and literally, there was a car dealership, a Kroger and a bad Chinese restaraunt and that was it!

A doctor at the hospital not performing surgery is working no more than me boarding passengers, shuttling between gates and sitting in a crap layover hotel/city.

You don't get paid for the layover time unless you count $1.25/hr pr diem as being "paid."

I like the "imprisonment" analogy. Ever overnight in Massena, NY? NOTHING is open after 8:30pm!

I did a 18-hour Xmas in BTR and the only food choice the captain and I had was the gas station down the street.

The people that worked in the restaraunt at our hotel were away at another hotel having a Xmas party.

Depending on the city and the season, a layover can be prison-like.

There's something in Massena thats even capable of being open?

Talk about the middle of freaking nowhere...I've visited friends up there in extreme northern NY plenty of times. Not exactly a happening place.

The 1900 crews often overnighted at places like Bradford, PA; Jamestown, NY; Reading, PA; Clarksburg, WV; etc.

I know one crew that drove from Bradford to Jamestown in a rental car just to see us, so they would have someone to talk to!!!

By the way, the "one bar" in Jamestown is a college bar, but there was a "Pat" there. We couldn't tell if it was male or female! That was an interesting night

I kept trying to get my FO to try and pick "it" up LOL

Hey I put a high score in there but that is NOT coming from flying income !!!

Sorry to mess up your poll.

Guys, this was based on averages. I am sure that they not use the 70-90 hour work week that Lawyers & Doctors put in.

When lawyers or doctors leave 4 years of college and then 4 plus years of medical or law school they are about $100k in the debt.

Eh, it was hardly scientific to begin with, still interesting numbers though.
