Pilot slot before signing

Lol! Some kid back in HS Army JROTC always argued with me that the Army did fly the A-10 and that he was gonna join the Army and fly it. Oh well, hope he likes helos.

I think they have some c21s that they fly. I'm not quite sure wtf is going on with the new tac airlift deal. Is the army going to take delivery of some of those? (and the 130J was the winner? or?)

I'll let Ryno or MikeD weigh in.

Yup the Army has a good deal of C21s. I see -1's from them everyday, well. . . every few days. Leaving Kuwait, for points in Europe. :)

Last I heard, the 130J was out of the running, and it was basically down between the C-27J and the CASA 235...

Still, I haven't heard of anyone who went straight to a fixed-wing aircraft in the Army. Don't all Army pilots fly helos then attempt to get qualified on fixed-wing?

I went to join the ROTC at Cornell when I was there, hoping for a pilot slot. My eyesight disqulaified me(No Laser Surgery Approved at that time).

The way I understood it though, was that they could guarantee me a certain job (They were offering me a Nav job), before any permanent commitment was made. They said I would sign a contract before I actually got a job, but I did not have to honor said contract until I actually started receiving scholarship money.

I have been proven wrong here on things before because I am not completely in the know, but this is what I was told anyway.

I know the Army doesn't have A-10s but you sure can't blame them for wanting them. I'm not sure about the Army taking over any Herks. Haven't heard anything along those lines. I know they have C-12s and Casas.

My local ANG unit has a c130 pilot slot available. They are only a couple miles from my house. Does anyone have any info about flying for the ang? I wonder how many hours I'd actually get with them. Good career move? Any info would be great :)
