Pilot Sidejobs or Business

bartending, crappy work (for most ppl) but part-time positions are plentiful. It does not bring in that much dough though.

I bartend on the side. Actually, you could say I flight instruct on the side. I've been doing it ever since I started working on my PPL. Anyway, I bartend in a pretty swanky establishment, and handing out my business card behind the bar has been pretty beneficial for me.

Is the money great? I guess not...I'm not making an MD's salary. But it pays the bills and my schedule is flexible.

I'm thinking of getting my car wholesaler's license and doing that on the side. Maybe become a Guard bum. We have a guy at work that basically flips off-market cars (i.e. finds homes for BMWs and Benzs that get taken in on trade at a Chevy store). You work whenever you want as long as you understand you're not making money when you're not buying and selling. This guy is semi-retired, moves about 5-8 cars a month and pulls down about $6k a month.

Thanks! Am back down in Tucson, AZ now. I go work up in the Vegas area about 1 week per quarter now.

You have to roll up to PHX for one of the meet and greets. There's a Law enforcement helo at VGT, is that who you work with?

Naw, that's Las Vegas Metro's birds. I was working my AF time up at Vegas, I'm based out of TUS though. Definitely will be swinging up to PHX for any M&G's.

Lol...should've said "thread revival".

I have my own business contracting firefighting services to the state or to local FDs for wildland assignments, EMS activities, or to back up out-of-service apparatus that smaller departments may have. As a 19 yr FF/EMT, I either contract out the trucks, or man them myself depending on the assignment

Does anyone know about the story of MikeD becoming a hero by stealing a truck? Muhahahah. The things I know about you meester!

$1,000 per car? Why am I having a hard time believing that?

More like $600-700 a car and then a home run on one or two. This guy deals with higher ticket cars. So moving your seller down $300 and the buyer up $350 isn't that hard on a $50k car. Especially since the seller won't pay a $200 auction fee and the buyer is picking up a car from guy he knows.

an AA guy I know does stuff in real estate and another one practices law.

someone else referenced him in a thread a while back.

He actively practices law and flies on his 'days off.' not a bad deal......

Does anyone know of any regional pilots practicing law on the side? There are some areas of law amenable to part-time and non-office work: appellate being the most prominent (mostly writing). BTW, just realized I am responding to a three year old post.

A captain that I flew with has his own practice. He schedules his court dates in between his scheduled flying days. He loves doing both of his careers, I guess he is sitting pretty well on money.

Maniac - what kind of schedule was that captain able to hold when you flew with him?
