pilot shortage scam or real?

madlion - take a minute to look through the threads here. This is a different online community. No need to caps lock, your posts will be read and responded to.

As to answer your question, as everybody else says, there will always be the talk to generate revenue into the GA training curriculums. Take a bit to look at your options, goals and others experiences. This is a poor industry with a smoke screen of glamour and fame from the 70s/80s.

If you take a poll of the average salary, QOL, days flying, hours flying, days away from home and compensation packages you'll find that most of us flying need to be saavy to make it financially and really lucky to make it. It's like rock stars and football players. There are a lot of musucians and athletes, but few make it to the top of the game.

The pilot shortage is very real. Don't let any of the debbie downers prevent you from wasting your life and future, believing it.

BEING A PILOT IS THE ONLY THING I CAN DO, IT'S MY LIFE. I WILL REACH MY GOAL NO MATTER WHAT

A bit over dramatic. It is the only thing you WANT to do, not the only thing you CAN do. Clearly you can type, so you can be a data entry clerk, you just don't want to be one.

If you will reach your goal no matter what, then why ask the question? Determination is good, blind ambition is not. Listen to what people on here say, they are trying to help you, not tell you it can't be done.

There will always be a need for pilots until the UAV's take over.

But a massive OMG's the world's gonna end "shortage"? They've been talking about that since I was in high school in the 1980's and you're not reading enough if you're actually asking the question.

You just got trolled, together with us, mshunter... haha.
Let's all please be encouraging and helpful. Don't leave one behind.

WHAT ABOUT THESE NEW BOEING ORDERS AND RETIREMENTS HAPPEANING

THe Boeing orders are mainly for replacements, not expansions. As for retirements. THey will be easily filled up by guys at regionals. Plus mainline Airlines are shrinking and regionals are growing for the most part. And on top of that we have a severe oversupply of pilots to begin with.:)

(PS If you wan't to get a response from more people. turn the cap locks off. )

Hiring is going on strong and steady where I'm at. And yes, I did just end a sentence with a preposition.
I hate you, and I can't wait until you are my FO. ;) I don't think this shortage is going to come all at once or at the end of 2012, but Pilots are getting older and will have to retire. It is going to happen, if you look at the average ages of pilots at MOST of the majors, it doesn't matter how much they reduce their flying, it won't stop it.
