Pilot Pete leaving Delta...

Is it me, or is it a little ridiculous to have a dream job exist because a parent worked there? It’s not even the same airline anymore really.

LOL This is so me. I had aspirations to fly a FRA trip or TXL with my aunt before she retired (57 years, former pan am girl!). Once we did I found out the routine was basically "nap, food shopping, quick meal, back to bed for 7:30am wakeup with jet lag + waking up at 1am wondering where you are". I guess all the fun stories I heard were from ages bygone.

Depends I guess. I'm sure after the millionth time it's not that cool, but if I could fly over and have some good local food, a couple local beers, and a decent sleep I'd be more than happy. But then when people say "wow you must go to some cool places!" I think of being stuck in a Residence Inn by the airport and an industrial park for 10 hours and think how rare it is I actually have an overnight I enjoy.

Dealing with those schedules is definitely an acquired skill. You just have to try out different things and figure out what works best for you, everybody is different. Some people plan sleep and meals, some “sleep when you’re tired, eat when you’re hungry.” One thing I do like about the long haul stuff is that there isn’t the stupid peer pressure to hang out on the overnight that I saw at the regionals. Being tired is a legitimate excuse and most people understand.

For some reason jet leg wrecks me when I travel for fun, but not so much when I travel for work. I think it’s a combination of having adequate rest facilities, having something to keep me occupied with during the flight, and that usually once I’m established on a 17 day pattern I’m able to sleep any time anywhere which allows me to plan ahead for whatever I feel like doing.

You WILL get your shot and I bet it will be soon.

Or he might never get the call, and you know what, that is OK. Even a RJ CA makes more money and has a better QOL than most people in the world. The last year or so I have come to realize, I need to enjoy what I have more than I did. I don't work at my dream job and might never get the a shot at it either, and that is OK.

Meh... the closet racists who think that because I am the same color as them that I actually want to hear their drivel is a bit worse than "RawDawg" telling me the same Tailhook story for the third time

HA, a friend of mine just had that happen to him on a DH. As soon as he said he lives in Alabama, the FO felt a need to tell him every crazy conspiracy theory.

I don’t know a single person with his qualifications that hasn’t been able to get an interview at a legacy/major/LCC, assuming they’re putting in the work and don’t have skeletons in the closet.
