Pilot maneuvers plane to give passengers ‘amazing’ view of northern lights

Anchorage center we’d like about 15 left to make our visual into juneau from the north.
5 minutes later….
Do you have the terrain in sight!?!? We show you in an area with an MVA of 8000
Affirmative, we have the terrain and the airport in sight
Is how I imagine it would go
If it happened
Which it didnt

VFR I assume?

Ah cause no way I’m approving a turn that takes you into a higher MVA if you’re IFR
Yeah, it would go something more like
15 left for the visual
Field in sight, we’ll make our visual from the north
Cleared visual approach
Uh…..you’re kinda low
We have all the terrain and the airport in sight
If it happened
Allegedly

I was just going to bring this up. Isn’t the departure clearance basically get yourself to the Golden Gate Bridge then depart the Golden Gate Bridge heading XYZ or something?

Paging @ChasenSFO I wanna say the Mexicana pilots loved it and would request it?
Breh Mexicana failed in like 2009 haha I was a 19 year old using airline first class as a way to get underaged drunk with the JC sub 21 mafia at that time and sending @DPApilot on random Brasilia roundtrips to pass the time while he waited for my shift to end.

Hawaiian pilots using 01L asked for it almost daily, Virgin America used to all the time also. Otherwise, few and far between and they'd usually also say it's a retirement, last flight at the company, ect so probably prohibitive rules at most shops. I never saw Aeromexico, Volaris, or Interjet request it.

They’d probsbly been flying out of LGA all their lives and seen it plenty of times already. Hell I’m bored with the Hudson SFRA in a 172.
Lol I never get bored of flying around San Francisco on a Bay Tour still even tho that's how I built most of my time, hard to imagine getting bored with Hudson views. I still actually plan where I'm sitting on airliners for SF photos on OAK/SFO departures despite all the bay tours to be honest. So some people must appreciate this kind of detour, at least. A pretty view is a pretty view, don't have to love planes to appreciate it.

Oh yes, the “Bay Tour”. I had a student who would often hook up with a stripper and call me at odd hours to take them on a bay tour. Super cool guy though! oh that dot com money in the 90’s.
Did he bring one for you?

Are they NATS up there? I'd guess that was more Spruce Route territory. If so it's pretty easy to coordinate something like that. I wouldn't want to try it on the NATS or with KZAK (or even worse Tokyo).

Mt Fiji is a good example.

Another one, who has heard about a Beech 1900 where a pax walked to the flight deck to ask if they could circle over a new cruise ship? As the B1900 did the orbit, there was a midair collision with a light GA single. All dead.
