I was just telling Joe(Screaming Emu) about an idea I had about a documentary. The idea was to make a documentary about a pilot that goes from zero hours to hired by a regional/freight etc. It seems that most documentaries are from Joe Blow who know very little about the workings of the airline industry.

But I am thinking of working this documentary from the inside so to speak. It would show how much work is really involved in getting places, all the necessary required to get your ratings, etc.

Sounds like a good idea! But if you do, please come up with a good title and picture. I remember seeing something called "fly jake" which was about some teenager getting his private cert. I havn't watched it, but the title and pic on the cover makes it completely unappealing. Choose something like from "I wanna be a hobo"​
 
Show them using the "I'm a pilot" line at the bar and promptly getting shot down. That's worth price of admission right there.
 
:) Use me, I dont have many hours at all :) ! This would be good idea. What channel would air it though? Too bad they got rid of the Discovery Wings channel. I suppose A&E would work.

I was actaully thinking of filming my training, it might be a smidgen bit easier;).
 
Hate to be the downer but imagine if you will...
The media getting wind of this...
"The terrorist now don't need to attend a flight school, they can just watch this docu."

Plus, how in depth would you really go? We have our trade secrets too just like everyone else that makes us pilots.

That being said...
Its a cool idea and worth pitching to a network but you need to have at least 25% ready to show them or 2-4 episodes for TV. My boss is working on a docudrama like cops (sorry no details, its being filmed still) in HD for the cable networks.

It would not be like a Sportys training DVD, but merely what happens during training. It would cover cost of training, what some of the pros and cons are, and depending on how brave I am feeling, show just how much management has cut airline pilot pay;).

I watched a documentary on U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine training - doesn't mean terrorists are using it to destroy subs!!
