Piedmont hires

Take it from me and lot of others.. this is the worst place to work. Stay away.
Some would disagree with you; some would say that PSA Airlines, another wholly owned subsidiary of AA, is the worst place to work... ;)

PDT is a lot smaller and their dispatchers don't have a lot of representation on this site because .. they're anicently old and lack social media. But all the people I knew who worked there also .. claimed horrible things and all left to go to another regional as fast as they could.

The one thing it has going for it is mainline AA flight bennies, which is second to none for new hires due to first come first served. Nowhere else can a newbie be higher on a standby list than a 30 year Captain and all 8 of his kids. Minimum 2 leg commute though, unless you don't mind driving 2+ hours one way.

That's too bad, I was hoping they would be a decent company to work for, but when you look at the other LUS wholly-owned regional, I guess it makes sense. I do miss my MQ flight benefits, so much easier to get on AA flights as a D2 than it is now as an S3B1 on DL. Too bad that working at PT, your only choices are to chance flying out of SBY on the Trash8 or drive 2.5 hrs to PHL.

I've heard that apartments in SBY aren't cheap either, probably due to the fact that there just aren't a lot of them there.

They are starting to fly the jet out of SBY starting this month for a few of the trips.

Apartments here can be pricey because it's a college town but the good thing about it though is Ocean City is pretty close drive which can be fun on the weekends.

This place is definitely ranked one of the worst if not the worst for a dispatcher job. Envoy Psa and Piedmont all have same flight benefits. If you can't get Envoy go PSA use Piedmont as last resort to get time and experience.

But WHY is it ranked one of the worst? A little info goes a long way.

i can't speak for PDT. PSA isn't that bad to work for once you stop caring about the things you cant control..

Piedmont is the worst regional airline out there...except for all the others. It's a regional airline. You're going to work a 4 on/3 off schedule. Early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays. You will be able to work overtime for extra money. You will get drafted on days you'd rather not work. You'll have good days and bad days and going half-mad days. You're going to make about $15 an hour, and time and half on overtime. It is what it is...a regional airline. It's a place to get started in the dispatch profession.

Piedmont was my first job, way back in 1996. I experienced all the things I just described, except the pay was about half what it is now. And I wouldn't change it for the world. It was a great experience for me, both professionally and personally.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH

Do your time at a regional and GET OUT.

The good thing about working at Piedmont is that it'd be within driving distance of my house in PA, whereas GoJet (STL) is not...

This has been the hard sell for my wife on me getting out of the Army and going there.

She doesn't want to live in eastern Pennsylvania and I don't want to have to fly to Philly to go to work.

How's that a harder sell than moving all over the freakin' place, which Army life entails?

We've actually been winning the lottery as far as assignment locations have gone.... so far. I'm sure my next posting will be the armpit of west Texas or some thing.

Work your ass off, be a good person, and good things will eventually happen. It has taken me nearly 10 years to get where I want to be, and it wasn't always fun, but the experience was excellent, and there have been many great people I've met along the way
Where are you at? After putting in time at my regional, I'd settle for a good 121 supplemental or a good 135 closer to home. At my age (55), I'll be ready for retirement in 10 years or so.

As a practical matter, there simply aren't enough spots at the majors. It's like going from minor league to major league baseball; there simply aren't enough spots for everyone who wants one at the big club. Besides, I don't want to work midnights for 8-10 years...
