Here are some pictures I took from a trip to the Otsego Lake Splash-In in Gaylord, MI. I know the pics aren't great, but I'm only using a p&s camera. An SLR will come one day...

Tight work!!

Love Seaplanes and hope to get my rating one day. Just out of curiosity, how do you preflight some of those multi's when not on land? Maybe with a dock you can do one side but what about the other side?

Flying boats as opposed to float planes do not work well with docks, as there are sponsons hanging down :) I'm told since the goose has retractable floats, you could pull up to a dock and retract one side; but I haven't seen that done. The owner of the goose knows his plane inside and out, and does a real thorough preflight on land before such trips. Engines are checked by shimmying up the topside.

holy crap!

that looks so awesome.

did you fly right seat? or just ride along?

I'm normally right seat. However, since I'm right seat so much, when we take other passengers I stop at that back seats. For this trip I was right seat up to the lake, for the contests, and on the return trip home...just riding along for a little side trip to drummond island.

Awesome pictures.

Do you have to start the engines in feather whenever you're on the water or does the airplane stay put for the most part?
