Pictures from Madrid

Doug was right, Madrid is awesome... took his advise and went to the mushroom house and dang, those were some tasty mushrooms! Also went to the Bull Bar (also in Plaza Mayor) where they hang the heads to honor all the bull's that won in the bull fights (by winning it means the bull fighter didn't fair so well!) We also went to a bar/resturaunt and were served by Don Juan! (His name tag even said it! ;) )

Anyway, here's a few shots my my field trip around town:
1.) Sideways buildings near the hotel
2.) Bank of Spain
3.) Independence Plaza
4.) Some old Palace ruins in Madrid's largest park

Actually picture number two is the "Palacio de Telecomunicaciones" AKA "Casa de Correos", it was Madrid's main postal office, until this year when it became the new City Hall.
The Banco de Espana Building is across the street

Picture number 3 is "La Puerta de Alcala" or Alcala's gate, in La Plaza de la Independencia.

Picture number 4, is not a ruin at all :). It is a monument to the King Alfonso XII , the great grand father of the current king, and it looks just the way it was designed, the construction is barely a hundred years old.:) You can see his equestrian bronze statue in the picture (top of the pedestal)

By the way, the name of the park is : "El parque del buen Retiro" or just "El retiro".

:)

When you get back over to Madrid you have to make sure you take a drive through Casa de Campo.

Oh, make sure you do it around 21:30-23:00. :)

Well, actually don't, but ask anyone who lives in Madrid and you'll get the joke! :rotfl:

And how the heck do you know about the Casa de Campo's nights? :D

And how the heck do you know about the Casa de Campo's nights? :D

I lived in Spain for about a year, and I had an apartment in Madrid.

I had to drive through the park to get from my apartment to the main office of the company I was contracting for at the time (Nortel Networks).

So I KNOW Casa de Campo pretty well! :D

Idn't a little freaky seeing that much ice below you. Now don't you wish you had two more motors hanging on those wings :p
