Photo taking at MIA

I'll be going to Brazil for two weeks this Friday and will be taking a TAM A330 flight from MIA-GRU. I want to take pictures of the airplane at the gate and around the airport while I'm waiting to board. Where is it not appropriate to take photos that would get me in trouble.

Last time I tried taking photos at JFK some guy almost took away my camera. And that was in the jetblue terminal.

Wow what happened there? Sorry I can't offer any tips for photography at MIA though.

That's allright. I don't know why they didn't want me taking photos. I was taking them in the terminal where everyone else was, and I was taking the photos from the windows next to the gates. I never crossed any areas I wasn't supposed to, the security guy just told me to put my camera away. I then asked him why, and he said it was what he was told to enforce. He also gave that "I don't make the rules, only enforce them" speech.

Legally as far as I know you can take pictures anywhere you want, I know a few people on jetphotos.net have gotten hassled by police and what not, the only ones that really get in trouble are the ones that end up mouthing off to the police. Take your pictures (thoughI dont think you can take pictures around security or customs) and you shouldn't have a problem. Try not to act too strangely as to get peoples attention. There are a lot of paranoied people out there nowdays because as we all know, "we dont know when, we dont know how, and we dont know where, but they will strike again"

*rolls eyes*. If anybody questions you, just tell them you're into airplanes and wanted to get some pictures, treat them with respect and usually they'll just ask you to stop, a lot of the time though they'll just tell you sometihng like "somebody asked me to come over and see what you're doing, but I know you're not a threat, just making them feel better". Good luck gettin the pics and have a good trip.

Thank You. I might just have a problem here at MIA, but I might actually get many got shots in the air and in GRU. I've seen guys at a.net fly whole legs in the jumpseat as long as they let the pilots know how much into aviation they are. So I'm gonna read up a bit on the A330-200 before Friday and try to talk to the pilots a bit. Maybe I'll get to sit in the jumpseat for a little bit and take some nice pics for yall.

So what else do you guys want pictures of, girls?

Lastly how long is that flight from MIA to GRU? And what time does your flight depart...hopefully not to late so you can actually see stuff from the air!

Yeah, there are beautiful women in every country, as well as not so beautiful ones.

The flight should be about 8 hours but we will get there at night because there it's 3 hours later. Our flight leaves at 9:15AM but my dad said we have to be there at like 6AM. We were lucky enough to get to fly on Friday, all the flights seem to be booked. We got middle seats though

. If I see any open spots at the windoes when the aircraft starts moving, I'm taking it.

Do it Brian do it...nothing worse then being ona plane and not having a window seat.
Damn it's gonna behell to be on an 8 hour flgith and not have a window seat.
That would be tantamount be being blind and going to the movies....
Lastly let this be a lesson to you to never let your parents pick the seats...yea they can pay for it but they don't choose the seats...
grin.gif

When I was your age anyone in my family who was traveling would come to me first before booking flights or going to a travel agent.
My mom would let me book the flight and select the seats and when it was time to pay she'd whip out the "plastic" and pay for it.
She was too prone to forget bout something as serious window seats....

My parents didn't get to choose. The fligts were booked and we were on reserve. My dad said he'll try to change the seats when we get to the airport.

I also got yelled at for taking pictures at JFK, i was trying to get a picture of the Concorde

I've had the fortune of getting stuck on a middle seat in the middle aisle on an 8 hour flight 3 times.... kind of sucks, but on the 777 at least you have leg room.

I feel for you. My Brother was stuck in the middle in the middle aisle on Beijing to Chicago flight....13 hours! With strangers! Everytime I walked by I laughed at him. What are brothers for!

Brian- what kind of camera do you have?
And my advice about taking pics is just take a walk around the airport and find a good place to relax and take some shots.

I'm using a Kodak DC3800. It's not much but it used to be my parents's and since they bought a new one they gave it to me. I'll be a new one as soon as I put enough money tegether.

Reminds me when I flew from Tokyo to Detroit .....except I couldn't walk....but I managed to crawl to the lav once!

How could I pass up all that free booze!

I solved the middle seat problem - I arrived mega early at an airport for departure, when I last flew trans-atlantic, Delta from MAN-ATL on MD-11 I got the window seat by being in the first 20 in the queue
grin.gif
! If you aren't good luck - I'd already not got an exit row seat
frown.gif

See, this is why you show up to the airport early.
smile.gif

What really ticks me off are the people running to the counter to check their bags 20 minutes to departure. Then they get mad b/c they can't get a window or exit row seat. I'm normally like "Dude, you're lucky I was able to get them to open the flight back up to get you on the flight at ALL." I stopped that after the second week. After that, if they showed up after the gate closed the flight (normally 25-30 min before push) I was like, sorry ya missed it. But there is another IAH flight in two hours.

Yeah, we're getting there two hours earlier. I don't know why but my dad always arrives a good chunck of time before the flight. I guess it won't be difficult to get a window seat.

Be careful in Brazil, I hear its umm......lets just say A.I.D.S is S.I.D.A. in spanish, not sure what it is in Brazil. (Portuguese).

As long as your in the terminal you can take pics @(LAX), in Miami....its like a 3rd world airport (to me)....So just go for it!
