PHL and the Drunk today....

So I'm surprised that no one beat me to this but here is the link to what happened today.

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/03/01/police-wayward-jeep-prompts-security-scare-at-philadelphia-international-airport

Then there is the amazing Live ATC. You can search for the archived sound files at http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php. If you search at1600z on 3-1-2012 you can hear the madness. It all started at about 1607z

The tower link is http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kphl/PHL-Twr-Mar-01-2012-1600Z.mp3 and starts around 7min and 40 sec.

Philly final approach at http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kphl/KPHL-App-Final-Mar-01-2012-1600Z.mp3

The rest can be searched. Very interesting how they had everyone holding. Good job to the ATC for keeping everyone safe while spinning around inside the B.

What really torques me about this, other than the obvious harrowing danger this guy put many lives in, is the fact that PHL says they won't change their fencing as it meets FAA standards. When you compare the threat caused by a breach of security like this (and there was a similar breach at DAL within the last two years) to the lengths the TSA goes through to make sure our underwear isn't bomb laden, it's all just a pathetic joke.

Isn't that Vince, of Sham-Wow fame?

I remember that the guy just busted into Love like Grand theft auto style. That link gate didn't even slow him down.

Yeah, exactly. So I propose that instead of securing the insides of airports, the TSA be tasked with securing the perimeters of all airports and throwing themselves in front of all vehicular threats. They are very dedicated to airport security. I KNOW they would do it.

The fencing is designed (at least at certain points) to actually be able to be rammed by emergency vehicles if needed for quick access to the airport. The "art of compromise" is heavily at work in aviation

Ah...never occurred to me. Thanks for the background info.
