Peter Garrison Gear Up

Both.

What's worse is the absolute inability to recognize the decrease in cognitive capability.
I get that it's tough to walk away from a life-long passion. A hard upper age limit would help know when it's time to go, though, and remove some of the personal angst, I think. 70 or perhaps 72 - maybe 75 (if objective data supports that).

I'm already thinking of when it will be the right time to surrender my privilege to drive a car at just a few months shy of 73. It just doesn't seem right to me that family or friends should be responsible for sneaking the keys out of my apartment some night after dinner🤷‍♂️ I'm thinking of doing so on my 75th birthday (earlier if needed by circumstance). While very different, there are still options in rural Dutchess County with delivery services for groceries, restaurant food, durable goods and driver/car options like Uber or medical appointments thru my health insurance.

In the meantime, I keep that line of communication open to local family and friends and seek their input on changes they note. Certainly it isn't flying but I've been doing it for roughly 57 years and it's a hard thing to actively consider; still I believe it's a good choice, at least for me.

Cognitive decline is a real thing as the decades pass, along with slower reaction times.

YMMV, but most (all?) of us will wrestle with that point in our lives.

Not sure a hard limit is fair.
Absolutely demanding the certificate holder to fly within standards is absolutely required.

There is no way I would be in favor of a hard limit. Maybe make a hard limit for carrying passengers. Some people live for this stuff.

Seems like when I was buying airplane renters insurance, they’re was a check box if you were old and flying a retract, so seems like it is on brand for old men to gear up airplanes.
