Pet Airways... are you kidding?

Re: I give it 2 months.

I don't really get what the market is for that? You fly somewhere on vac, and book your pet on a separate airline??

Article in the local paper said they go across the country... yes, New York to LA... About 24 hours including stops. How is the cargo hold of a 767 worse and more cramped than the "main cabin" of a 1900? And do they really have onboard attendants? Kind of funny if pet hauling 1900s get one and the passenger hauling equivalent doesn't...

Just dogs and cats for now, from what I heard. They're looking into transporting exotic pets in the future.

They were advertising for Ground and In-flight Petattendants on one of the pay to view job web sites a few days ago.

I really didn't think they would need a FA because I am sure they have Pilot's lined up outside the door willing to accept a job making 14 dollars an hour and cleaning up dog and cat turd in a 1900.

Re: Pet Airways

I wish them well. They, like most of us, just want to make a little profit providing a unique service in an industry that has been historically brutal to upstarts. They certainly face tough challenges ahead.

:yeahthat:

Instead of "Good on them for trying to make it in a niche market" we get "OMFGCANYOUBELIEVESOMEIDIOTISODINGTHIS????!!!!11!"

How many people on here have ever tried to transport animals, and I don't mean moving to a new place with your beloved pet, I mean buying and selling high dollar animals in the pet trade? It's a SERIOUSLY underserved market. If you want that $2000 color morph ball python in upstate New York, but you live in Texas, you don't have a whole lot of options. FedEx would charge you WAY more than Pet Airways is charging, and there's still no guarantee the animal will get there alive. Forget the US mail, since it'll either get lost or become some postal worker's new prized possession. Even if you use those methods, these animals require specific heat and humidity levels during transport. I've dealt with a couple of tarantulas, and the only thing you can do now is put them in a box, pack them, toss in a heat pack and hope for the best.

AMF transports animals everyonce in a while. I haven't done anything other than lab mice, but they've transported kennels of dogs and dolphins.

Ever walked into a pet store / animal shelter with a buncha dogs in crates?

Imagine shooting an ILS to mins with 50 yelping dogs behind you, in a 1900 without a door.. Awesome!

Im sure most 1900 pilots can replace your number with 19, and dogs to people, and they dealt with it. Haha

Dolphins? How the heck are you guys doing that? Every dolphin transport I've heard of requires a qualified vet on board to monitor them. Not saying you're not doing it, just wondering if the company doing the shipping (not AMF) is following proper procedures.

A qualified vet rides in the jumpseat! The last one done was about a month and a half ago in the Brasilia.
