Personal Defense/EDC gear for Airline Pilots?

I figure if my copilot went all "Dundee" and pulled out some self defense knife to show me, I'd most likely think he was neurotic and give him that "let's go ahead and leave your toys at home next rotation.

"That's not a knife. This is a knife.

No its not, that's a spoon."

What about titanium sporks? Do you think TSA would confiscate one?

Also, I'm thinking about investing in a tin cup.

I carry this in my shirt pocket. I've never been questioned about it and it does not alarm the metal detector.

Well, frightened people are a profit and power center.

Scared people go to the polls to support candidates that stoke fear and promise to protect them.

Scared people keep their eyeballs glued to cable news networks and are s reliable demographic to sell to advertisers.

Paranoia out scores critical thinking and statistical probability.

Mexico isn't the bastion of safety. It's pretty much a third world country. Although thats not necessarily meaning that you are a target, but the chances for crossfire by groups that do hate one another is somewhat higher there in many places, than it is here in the states. Just keep some SA, keep a low profile, and make some smart decisions. But know that just because nothing may have happened to you directly, doesn't necessarily mean the place is safe. Sometimes, it's just luck. I wish I could share the LE Sensitive bulletins we get on daily goings on there vis a vis cartel and other gang violence, and just how far it reaches at times......whether intended targets or collateral damage. Would suck to end up in either category.

More or less targeted at those that live in constant paranoia, but yes Mexico can be "interesting" safety wise.

Like when we landed in Atlanta from Europe and my mother in law said "I'm glad you're safe on American soil."

I'm way more likely to get stabbed on MARTA than anywhere in Europe

Shoot, downtown Mumbai is looking safer than an Oregonian National Park.

And I'm probably far safer in Turkey (even 'over the bridge') than I am in large swathes of rural Pennsylvania.

My advice to you is to stay out of the town limits of Chino Valley, AZ.

Totally! I don't think I've been there since!

Well, besides that one party where that bozo wanted to fight us all.
