PEOPLExpress ?

Been coming back for 2 years now. They purchased XTRA last year to get the certificate and planes.

Hiring was announced on Friday via their Facebook page. I applied within 2 hours of the posting since I live 45 minutes from the Newport News airport and would love to be a part of the relaunch. Unfortunately, they are apparently serious about the 1000 Multi Turbine PIC for FOs. At one point during the application, it asks if you meet the minimum requirements. I only have 330 Turbine PIC so I checked no. It never asked me another question about flight time and didn't even allow me to submit a resume. Simply asked a few more basic questions and then gave me a "Thanks for applying, but you don't meet our minimums" message at the end. Disappointing to say the least.

You're disappointed because they actually care about their minimums or that you don't meet them yet? What's the point of having minimums if they are not followed.

I am disappointed that I do not meet them yet.

I have been following the progress of the airline for 2 years and was very hopeful that once hiring began, I would at least have a shot. I wanted this job because the idea of being involved in a start up was exciting to me. Helping build a positive company culture that showed through to the customers was exciting to me. Maybe being able to earn some brand loyalty from a customer base was exciting to me.

A lot of people on this site will probably laugh at those reasons or will throw negative comments around this thread about them, but at the end of the day, I enjoy the customer service side of this industry. Getting a laugh and a smile out of my passengers makes me happy and I take great pride in my ability to do so. One day, I hope to take that attitude back to the airlines.

Do you meet the minimums for a F/A Position?

Ads for both seats have this statement:

"737 Type Rating will be given favorable consideration"

So, this indicates the type may not be required and they're willing to get people the type rating ?

I seem to remember from the original PE that pilots had to work as dispatchers when they weren't flying. :(

One of the schedulers at my previous gig used to work there. She was a phone reservations/ticket agent/gate agent/FA for them... all at the same time.

Can't figure out why anyone is salivating over a job that doesn't really exist, for a company who largely picked up the dog tags of a dead airline and says that they're "bringing it back"!

I could lease a 737 and claim that I'm the rebirth of Western. But I'm not.

Hypothetically, it would be a great career move if I did meet they're minimums (I have no turbine PIC).

But if I did meet they're mins, I probably would pass for Spirit or JB since they're both profitable and established companies.

The only real attraction I can see is if I had the burning desire to live in Newport News.

One of my former instructors may have just been hired here recently. He made a FB post that he was heading back home to the East Coast to fly 737s. Hes was originally from Virginia.

Assuming this MIGHT be PEx, did your friend have any 737 or other T-category airplane experience ?

I'm gonna guess they won't have any trouble hiring the smallish number of pilots they need.

No 737 experience. Im not entirely sure it was People, just an outfit flying 737s back east. I was just guessing by him saying he was going home to fly 737s, it might be People considering he was from the Va area. He was the chief instructor and had a crap ton of time flying multiple types. How many companies back east currently fly 737s?
