man, i sure am glad youre a student and know what "help sheets" we get...

Yup, was a student for 3 years, not all that long ago either.

as of last semester we got paper bills mailed to us. the change to electronic notification only was done............... BY EMAIL.

ineffective communication of policy change on behalf of UND.

Maybe, but it is not UNDs fault, because you didn't use the email account the university set up for you.

now, if we had absolutely no prior use for this email address they gave us, what would prompt me to go check it now?
no use for a University assigned email address, come on now. You chose for it to be an address you didn't use, not UND, the pattern again, man I could write a thesis on this stuff.

In all seriousness, relax Tex, I have been farting with you since I am bored out of my gored in PDX. If you want to leave, go for it, you will be screwed on your flight time though, thats a hard FAA rule and OU won't be able to waive that one. Since you are third year I am assuming you are through 222 and into 323? If so, half of that time will not come with you to OU, as it pertains to your 141 flight times. You obviousley get to keep the time in your logbook.

Again, factual fallacy. "there is no reason i cant get independent status" is patently false. UND has denied me independent status 3 times based on my age alone.

Thats great that you got yours because you had special treatment for being the kicka$$ guy that you are.

Well thank you, it's nice to hear from someone else I am the stud your girlfriend says I am!

Times change pal.

Die in a fire.

Your first francis

Mad yet?

Well, your assumption is wrong. I am a "third year" by hours because i transferred here from the univ of tex after finishing a bunch of stuff then deciding my heart was with aviation, not computer science. i am just finishing my private. (102)

i can handle the hit from 35 hours back to 17.5 hours.

:-D

Everardo MARTINEEEEEEEEZ. Yup worked with him for a couple of years. I know the name Kruger, can't say that I know him personally.

Well, you got me there, I was independant at 21 for whatever reason. UND is not making the rule, the FED Gov, is, so OU wont be able to offer you anymore stafford loans than you are getting now. http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/student_guide/2004_2005/english/general-dependency.htm <--- for the 2004-2005 year, but the rules are the same.

So far, from all this bickering, the only reason you have given for leaving UND is an $800 charge that was sent to an account you had easy access to, but didn't check??

Anywhooo, enjoy OU, you will most likely spend a crap load more money than you will at UND, but at least you can say you stuck it to UND by leaving right?
Are you sure you gained independency for Financial Aid purposes at 21? I wrote letters to the gov't to try to convince them that mommy and daddy don't give me a $2000 a month allowance for rent, food, car payment, and flight training costs like the think they should (or something along those lines). No luck.

It wasn't until I was 24 when they finally said "oh, now you are finally old enough to live out in the real world by yourself, without the assistance of mom and dad"

You won't take a hit then. The hours you get in the 102 course do not count towards the commercial course, if I remember correctly. You will then start at OU, might have to do a test course, maybe not, that is one thing I didn't think was right that UND does/did.

You made the same mistake I did, left one school just before finnishing one degree to fly, you will be kicking yourself in a few years! :argue:

Well, I just don't get why they give us two email accounts. I think they should just drop the .aero account and leave us with one. Make life a little easier.

Yeah somehow they think UND students need some special recognition with the vanity-plate-status ultra super luxury "aero mail account" :D

Yup, I had my wife dig up the records, I'm a pack rat when it comes to that stuff. The "approval" letter stated Aviation student, higher financial need, independant status approved. Of course it didn't really matter, I got married 6 months later.

nah the real mistake i made was not following my own heart from the beginning and getting pushed into a major/school that i had no intention or desire to finish.

but i learned, corrected, and moved forward. im presently very happy with my decisions.

id really be kicking myself if i was waking up every day going to some cubicle farm job that made me hate life.

only mad at your unending string of fallacious arguments and out-of-touch perceptions of how the school is currently operating.

You gotta grow some thicker skin bud. Every school is going to have its issues, including OU. It is all in how you deal with them. This crap is expensive, and the whole independant thing is a joke (loan whise), but do you really think jumping schools, paying more tuition until you get resident status is a good idea? You have fixed the billing problem, and must have access to more financial aid. UND may not be the cheapest, but you can't put a price on the network you are building. You will build a network at OU, but how big will it be compared to UND? Look down the road 10 years and think of how many people you will know in that many different aspects of aviation alone, VS, OU??

okay now youre actually getting back on-topic.

this is why i was soliciting opinions on going to another school, evaluating what sort of benefits or drawbacks there are to going to OU, etc.

I had no desire to be an engineer either, but hey it pays pretty good and working for NASA didn't seem like a bad gig at the time, but like you my heart was in the clouds, but I am still kicking myself for not finnishing those 6 GODAMN courses and having two degrees.

btw i have plenty thick skin, dealing with a school of 53,000 students is no walk in the park (my time at UofT)

there are ups and downs absolutely, but i find there to be a much more severe level of institutional incompetence here.

aviation program, great. no questions.

overall university experience here..... yeah, thats why im looking for something else. (quality of education, management of funds, etc etc etc)

i was not that close to finishing a Comp Sci degree. i had my basics and thats about it. perfect time to re-evaluate and find what to finish the degree in.

I think OU has a bridge program with American Eagle. Dugie is right though. Make sure you do some very thorough research and soul searching before you make your decision. Weigh all the pros and cons of staying and going to another school. Good luck to you.

All in all, one school isn't any better than the other, education whise (sp?) It is the people, the sheer volume of people at UND in aviation. I can still call back and ask people in the department for letters of rec, advice etc, and they still know me. But don't let anger drive your decisions, shiiit happens anywhere, and believe it or not, it doesn't happen anymore or less at UND, I'd say it's about average. If a minor hiccup in communication gets your blood boiling, whats going to happen when your ready to push out of EWR and can't get a word in edgwise to ramp control? It's not the situation, it is how you deal with it. Do you go thermonuclear, or do quietly pull out your beatdown stick (don't get any perverted thoughts) and have that problem see things your way?
