Pending Furlough?

I may be getting furloughed for the first time in my career. I was just wondering while on furlough are you allowed to fly commercially for another company that doesn't make you resign your number?

I am hoping to pick up a 135 frieght gig that flys a lot. If I get called back I may be timed out for the month or year for 121 ops.

Just looking for opinions on this matter. If anyone knows of any jobs in the DTW area let me know as the freight thing may or may not happen.

Sorry to hear that! If you don't mind can I ask who you fly for? Being Detroit based I am guessing one of two red tailed airplanes. That's what consfuses me as they are both advertising for pilots.

Anyhow, I hope you can pick something up. Do you have your CFI tickets? Is that a possibility to keep flying and making a little scratch?
 
Sorry to hear about the furlough.

I'm not sure who you work for or what your circumstances are, but when getting furloughed from an airline you have to think like you will NEVER get recalled. Do not sit around and wait for a recall and do not take a job based on thinking you will get recalled. Stat your career over again and try to get where you want to go with that mind set. I watched too many people stagnate during the 8 year furlough I was on in the early to late 90s. The same thing is happening today with all the post 9-11 furloughees taking those stupid J4J jobs which were nothing more than a big step backwards in career progression. Always have a plan and a goal to work towards. Only take jobs that you think will help you achieve your goal. Keep your seniority number if you can, it's always nice to have one in your back pocket, but don't let it hold you back.

It's very sad to see someone go through a situation like this. Especially with a little one to take care of.
 
Furlough sucks.

As a furloughee, I really, really, really, really hope that it doesn't happen for you. (Or anyone else on this board for that matter.)

Start researching jobs NOW, just in case. Look to see what's out there, in every aspect. As for resigning recall rights, some airlines make you, some don't. I walked out of a USA 3000 interview (in Dec of '01) because they wanted me to resign my AA rights. I didn't want to, and I don't regret it.

My best friend & former roommate found out she was pregnant, had to tell her boyfriend this the same week he found out he was getting laid off from his corporate flying gig. 3 weeks later 9/11 happened, and there were NO flying jobs to be had. He worked at Office Depot to pay the bills for months waiting, applying, networking until he finally found a new flying job.

Sh&tty situations happen, and I hope it doesn't happen to you. But you'll get through it, you'll find something & some way to make it work!

If my memory serves me your with Pinnacle....

I talked to my friends there, one of whom is the DTW FO Rep. He hasn't heard a word about this.

I know they canceled the most recent vacancy, but has there been anything other than that released?

I for one hope it's not true.....
 
If you're with pinnacle.. say huh!?!? We're gonna be hiring way into the end of the year at least.... staffing is very very short.

I hold an average of 11 days off per month and then get junior manned on top of that....
