They had trouble finding pilots so that means the pay and benefits weren't high enough. In order to compensate for not having big jets to fly, some companies are just going to have to raise pay. That is just market reality right now.
There's a cap on what you can pay in crew costs and remain profitable on a route, which is easier to identify with EAS. Truth is, a lot of these EAS and other small markets aren't sustainable under current labor demands.
