PDT vs AWAC

I have a buddy that lost his medical for three years. He got it back last year and flew aerial photography for a few months then got hired at PDT to start DHC-8 training next month in SBY. Now that AWAC is opening an RDU base, which is where he lives, he wants to jump ship at PDT for AWAC. He has 350/30 TT and no jet flying time at all. He just got back into flying and now he wants me to walk his stuff in and, leave the job he already has for AWAC. I'd love to walk it in as he is a good guy and it will net me $1200. With his flying history, does this sound like a good decision or should he stay at PDT?

I'm sure some of the other AWAC gentlemen will respond, but here is my opinion.

AWAC minimums are what? 600/100? Or is it 600/50?

Either way, the guy is short, way short.

Would HR even invite him to an interview with those times? I wouldn't be too concerned with the lack of jet flying time. AWAC has hired CFI's who had zero jet time.

But, real easily, I'd say he stays at PDT. He'll gain some valuable turboprop experience in a crew environment. But leaving PDT before 600/100(50) I think, would be a very bad choice.

Why even take the job with PDT if he plans on jumping ship before training even starts? Don't show up for training and hold out for AWAC if that's what he wants.

We have a refferal program here, so mins are out the window. I've recommended folk with very low time and they got a call.
The only concern we have come up with is what happens if training doesn't go well, he has burned the PDT bridge already and then AWAC, he's very low time, what next?

I don't think he has a choice.

He MUST go to PDT. With that amount of debt and those times, he should be GLAD to have a job- not trying to jump.

Go get some time at PDT, then leave. But don't burn the bridge!

I must say, he has an interesting background to get hired with such low time and no CFI (walk-in at PDT?).

Seems to me, as mentioned, that he should consider himself lucky to have a job. He's not going to get rich at either place, so get the income flowing asap and starting paying off that debt....if that is even possible:

Thats nothing, i'm $120K

How does this happen?

I know riddle is running somewhere on the order of $24k/semester + another $10k or so per semester for flying, that's $160k-ish if you fly for 3 years.

That's WAY TO MUCH FREAKING MONEY...holy heck where is America heading? And how do people continue to go to ERAU for those costs?!?

I know a guy whose nephew goes to FIT for their flight program. The kid's parents sold their house, and the father took an extra job in order to help pay the tuition. The reason the kid goes there is become some airline pilot told them that going to a University Flight Program is the only way to be a successful airline pilot.

I educated the guy I know, who in turn tried to talk to his brother about it. This apparently caused a family rift, and they don't talk so much any more. Last I heard, the kid wanted to quit and fly helicopters.

Without a referral the mins are 500/125 right?

Pretty pissed that I normally get a number from anyone I meet, except the 3 guys who got jobs at AWAC :( stupid stupid stupid stupid

Let the guy go to PDT... get some time/experience for 6 months, and then reccomend him for AWAC.

You'll be doing everyone at AWAC a favor as well as your friend. Training here has gotten tough man---look at the resignations every month... a lot are training failures. Let him go to PDT, get the time, experience, and get used to the USAirways "all together on-time" mentality (sarcasm) and then he'll be good to go.

WHEELS---CONGRATS ON CAPTAIN AWARD! :)
