PCSM

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the PCSM. I've done tons of searching and can't find the answer I'm looking for. I took the TBAS when I was a sophmore in ROTC and got a pretty bad score of 50. This was before getting my PPL and obviously flight hours. My question is, is it true if you have your PPL, your PCSM score automatically is a 50 without adding in the AFOQT? I'm retaking the TBAS this month since boards are in February. Any information would be great!

Thanks

No. Your PCSM score has nothing to do with what certificates/ratings you hold. They put your AFOQT score, your TBAS score, and your flying hours into some super secret formula which spits out a PCSM score.

Do they give a score for the TBAS now?

Back in the dark ages when the test was called the "BAT", there was no score provided to the test-taker -- it just went into the PCSM formula.

Agree that the PCSM only includes (sub-test scores from) the AFOQT, TBAS, and flying hours. The PCSM algorithm is not known, but the last time I checked the AFPC Special Flying Programs office did show how flying hours affected it, and it could only add a maximum of 10 points (with 200+ hours of flying).

Yeah I figured it didn't. Boards are coming up soon so rumors are getting tossed around. Thanks for the info guys!

The flying hours will help your score a little bit. I don't know if flying time will or not. I'm of the opinion that you either have eye-hand coordination or you do not. If you haven't played games with a joystick in your life that's one thing, but if you're a pilot hopeful I find it hard to believe the TBAS was your first exposure to a joystick.

You know how the test works now, so have a good breakfast and kick its ass. I missed 6 or 8 questions of the UAV section, and still came out with a 99. You can screw up and still rock it, just don't get frustrated.

Good luck, don't suck.

These are the increments of flight time that you previous flying can help you out. 1-5, 6-10, 11-20, 21-40, 41-60, 61-80, 81-100, 101-200, 201+

Well I just took the TBAS again yesterday and scored an 80. Much happier than the 50 I got the first time!
