PC-12 Shutdown in Flight

Dang, how warm did that get? I think the lowest I have seen is 12% and that was pushing 850C T5. I think we get 1080 for 2 secs on a start for our PT6's, not sure what other aircraft or other pt6 engine models get... I bet that was a hot start at 8%!!!

Not really that hot. i forget what it was, but we weren't close to limits... Short version, I was starting #2 for cooling, as the FO climbed into the cockpit to take his seat, he kicked my hand, which was on the Cl.. at that point fuel was put to it, watched it carefully, but didn't want to toss it gas, then cut it out right away.

As i recall, it started pretty much like it did every other time. In the 1900, we just had to have Ng stabilized at or above 12%

:yeahthat: I'll go back to my previous statement. If you make it out alive you made the right choice. If you didn't then it doesn't matter anyways now does it?

That's the bottom line. I'll take luck over skill any day I need it also, what ever works!

Nice. I am sure every plane is a little different. For us the "book" says 12%, but that is still pretty hot, so the company minimum is 15%. But if the GPU or ghetto start cart are broke... well time to battery start, which always gets pretty hot.

Cook the engine at 8%, land at an airport, junk the engine

vs.

Not attempting a restart, gliding to an off field landing/controlled crash?
