Random thought/question. When do you bid for your next months schedule? How "far" in advance? I.E. the 10-17 (Skywest)? What are the bid days at your airline?
 
Where I work our bid packet comes out on the 10th and it's usually due around the 15th or 16th and we'll get our schedules on the 20th. Way too late, and so they have a bunch of sick calls because people don't have enough time to plan. I guess that's what they want.
 
Our bids come out on the 10th, close on the 15th and are awarded on the 18th. Then all the flying that isn't covered due to training and vacation and all the reserve lines are published on the 18th, close on the 21st and are awarded on the 24th.

That means you normally have less than a week of lead time for the first few days of the next month. It sucks.
 
Which I guess is what I'm trying to get at...even though I have no point. This was more or less started on a rant. People have lives outside of work...whodathunkit?!?! I know of one airline in particular that was averaging 30 call-ins a month...they recently reported 103! And times are worse now!? Furloughs and all...yet they aren't granting any vacation time due to "insufficient reserve levels."

I really have no idea what I'm getting at...I guess a one too many drinks in you gets you thinking.....
