Paying your dues???

They seem fun, but to fly a GA plane that makes getting somewhere SIGNIFICANTLY quicker it gets expensive really quickly.

If you don’t have kids or plan on taking more than 3 people, an older 200hp Mooney toes the line between fast and not too expensive really well. When I lived in RDU and wanted to get to Nashville to see my parents, we would rent one from our flying club and for about $900 round trip my wife and I would be there in about the same time door to door (no TSA, could fly to an airport on their side of the city). Probably about $150-200 more than airline tickets round trip. But flying at 10k’ over the appalachians is way cooler than fighting for seats on southwest.

Edit: but yeah, quicker and cheaper isn’t happening for 90% of places most people are likely to go.

You People, by which I mean CC people, do seem to have a problem with consistent spacing. You're not moving in to MY neighborhood with that sort of grammar and punctuation, I can tell you that. We have standards around here, friend.

Don't make me lose faith in humanity. You do know what that was from, right?

Did you have something legitimate to add? One complaint I received is I haven't been contributing/giving advice, and here when I do, this happens.

I guess I don't see how it's a shortcut. It's an airline right? He meets the minimums for Southern and they are hiring. Anyone can apply. Swayne Martin did the same, Mokulele right seat Caravan to ATP mins and then off to Envoy. If Max can afford to take the financial hit then it is an option. IIRC, he isn't exactly a young buck in this game so an accelerated option to get to 1,500 hrs while flying for Southern could very well help him in the short and long run.
Pretty sure Swayne did not build all his hours island hopping on weekends. That was more fun thing he did. Problem I have with these small caravan places is they fail so often and you can lose your job at any moment. Plus how many hours are you truly building a month?

I was too the same attitude, I literally joined this forum asking about alternatives to not instruct. One thread was all it took and 3 months later I had my CFI in my hand. I've seen people go down all these roads and paths and then FINALLY they get their hours years later bouncing around and boom there's a crisis. I think if the objective is get seniority number ASAP, there's only 1 route to be advisable. And we all know it.

Just my opinion and not saying you can't do it successfully outside of instructing, but you're pretty much gonna be climbing a hill from the start .

Not every person’s goal is to go 121, so to those people “grabbing a seniority number” is a worthless ambition.

And your last paragraph is nothing but personal opinion which I won’t continue to address. You have your opinion, just realize it isn’t fact.

And I know Max personally and what his goals and ambitions are so that's what the post was more tailored to. I literally said in the last paragraph it's "just my opinion"? Don't think I need clarification on that and not sure why anyone would want to address it anyways. Many paths to go down in this industry and I'm not saying nor suggesting 121 is the end all for everyone.

You’re opinion and assumption that those who don’t get their CFI are somehow climbing a steeper hill is also nothing more than speculation, and probably based on your own observational biases, not fact.

Where are “you” people getting this cherry pie????????? @Maximilian_Jenius, how dare you put anything above Sweet Potato pie! And Pumpkin pie sucks!

Wait, I thought our people don't eat pumpkin pie. I never see it at any gatherings that I attend, except if I'm at a persons shin dig that is melanin deficient. Homemade sweet potato pie, apple pie and cherry pie, all the time.

Thank you for your insight. Maybe next time I'll bold my disclaimer that it was my opinion since stating so was not enough. Let's get back on topic bud.
