Paying It Forward For Orange Anchor

One of the founding principals of JC is paying it forward and if you look back over JCs history how much we have paid forward is amazing. When Mike was in Iraq we organized the most awesome care package, when our friend Ben passed away we raised a huge amount for his family and as we say tailwinds to another friend who gave so much to us we should think about doing something to thank him.

In his obituary it mentioned the family wanted donations to angel flight in lieu of flowers - as a community of pilots, many people heavily involved in time building I think to honor our good friend Orange Anchor we should recruit some pilots and provide some flights.

If you are not familiar with Angel Flight - they fly non-critical patients to doctors appointments all over the US. Many rural hospitals have very limited services so for rare conditions patients have to commute a few hundred miles each way to a large city hospital and they might have do to this fairly regularly. When you consider the price of gas (especially when they are likely out of work due to their illness), the fact they might not have reliable transportation, etc the donated flight time is immensely helpful in them receiving the proper care. As a pilot you provide the airplane, gas, etc and fly them to their destination -

Different Angel Flights have different flight requirements, all require some sort of orientation and check out (I know in Socal I clumped my BFR and orientation into 1 flight) -

There is no better way to build flight time, give back to the community and say thank you to someone who did so much for us.

No angel flight for North Dakota eh? I'd love to volunteer, but besides CAP, does anyone know of charity flying up this way? I'll be here for a while.

Angel Flight is a great organization. My boss and I regularly make trips all over the state of Maine picking up patients to take into KBOS. Its a very rewarding experience. Plus no landing/ramp/handling fees is a huge win!
