Paying for a job checkride?

I must agree with everyone else here. DO NOT DO IT! Aside from that, if you need a job as a C.F.I. Flightsafety down in Vero is looking for CFI's BIG TIME. Even offering to pay for those who have yet to obtain thier CFI, II and MEI. Aerosim in Sanford is also looking for CFI's. Both don't charge for a checkout. Hope this helps you and others. (Flight Safety wants a 2 year commitment Aerosim nothing)

As in jet sim instructors? Or do they have a normal flight school too?

I interviewed for a job instructing Navy pilots out in Annapolis, the guy had a contract to do the first 30 hours of instruction. He also ran a flying club affiliated with the business. He told me that I'd have to join the flying club to instruct because all of the instructors for the navy contract came out of the club instructor pool... it was something dumb like $300... I said no thanks because I didn't have it. Shortly after the Navy yanked the contract and consolidated in Pensicola.

It was for the best though, I interviewed at OpenAir in and got the job after a Free flight check in the cirrus.

I believe it's for (Flightsafety) the normal side of the house G.A. flight school. They have it posted on their website under I believe free CFI CFII MEI.

name and shame.

I worked at Monarch Air at Addison TX back in 07 and had to pay for .5 in one of their G1000 C-172s since I had never flown a glass panel before. They said that they couldn't afford to reimburse the aircraft owners 75$. They also made the CFI's work the front desk for free. Discovery flights were unpaid as well.

I was new to the DFW area and really needed a job since I was 250 hours short of 135 mins and we were flat broke. So, I stayed there for 4 months which was just long enough to meet 135 mins, then walked across the taxiway and got a job at Martinaire. Needless to say I've had nothing good to say about Ray and Trey Sawtell ever since. I did refer 2 potential aircraft buyers to Van Bortel in GKY who bought airplanes 182s that I could have sent to Monarch. I'll bet they are glad that they saved that 75$ and 8.75/hr to work the desk.

Seriously to all new CFIs:

A lot of schools in FLA are hiring like crazy. A lot of instructors build up the 135 or 121 mins they were looking for over the summer and are looking to move on come August and September when school starts back. Now is the time to be sending out applications and there are plenty of decent and good schools to choose from. Has the industry become this low? Its no longer just PFT and PFJ... Now it's become "Pay for Interview". As Charlie Brown would say, "GOOD GRIEF"!

No, it has not. However there are a few operations with their heads still in the sand that think that CFIs are still a dime a dozen and should feel privileged just to be building flight time.

Crappy places like this will suffer from their own arrogance.

I haven't read the rest of this thread but can I please say HELL NO.

What is to stop this scumbag from taking your money after flying with you and then not giving you the job?

Please don't do this.

You should also post the name of the school so others can stay away/prank call/flaming pile of S*&% his doorstep.

Well I learned a few things.
1 JC'ers are awesome! thanks for your thoughts
2 do not ask a question the night before a 3 day work cycle (when you get back there will be lots of reading)
3 they filled the position with a higher time guy I know and as soon I as I can get a hold of him I'm going to ask if they pulled the same crap and I'll let you folks know.

For the record it was East Coast Aero Club out of Bedford MA. I talked to the owner Mark....something something. who made sure I knew he was not a CFI and not really qualified to judge those skills. Hench the check out with an experience CFI.

Thanks again Y'all

Just to clarify something,

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an interview flight with an experienced CFI...... as long as the school is paying the cost of the flight. This is just the cost of recruiting qualified personnel.

Interesting! ECAC was on my list, as a potential renter pilot who visits that area from time to time.

Not anymore. ~.^

In total agreement, I planed on a checkout flight.

This guy sounds a little bit like Jim Kwasek from the former Palwaukee Flyers now called Chicago Executive Flight School, at KPWK.
Jim may be the biggest slimeball in the nation when it comes to unethical business practices in aviation.
