Pax Found Dead in Lav

Reminds me of a deal we had with an elderly couple on arrival in ATL. Everyone had deplaned and the old man was "asleep" against the window with his wife sitting beside him. The F/A stopped and asked her if her husband was OK. Her answer was a calm: "No, he's dead." And sure enough he was.

MQAAORD - can you shed any insight here? Are F/A's required to do any kind of check to make sure the lavs are empty prior to landing, during final descent or something?

I'm having a mental moment. But for the life of me I can not remember lav checking procedures. When I was an IOE instructor I seem to remember harping on students to check the lav before takeoff, but I can't remember what the procedure was for landing.
My old manuals are boxed up in the basement, so I can't even look it up.
You'd think I'd remember better, having been an instructor & all. Guess the kids have sucked the brains right out of me.

My mum used to do the Hajj flights, and they had a Nigerian who had died on the flight. They left him in his seat, and notified the airport, but between emptying the plane, and greeting the ground staff, etc the guy got up and left.
The week before I passed out in the bathroom, there was someone who committed suicide in a BA bathroom. I was very impressed with how brave the FA was to come and save me.

Just out of curiosity, why did you pass out? You find something that wasn't flushed?
On another note, I had a guy die on my flight years ago. We were on a school trip, and the guy died in the middle of breakfast. The guy was a few rows behind us; the FA asked if she could take his tray, and next thing I remember was a bunch of 5th graders (the grade i was in at the time) freaking out that a guy just died next to them. I think that was the last time I ever was served breakfast in coach class (UsAir, NC-VA).

Yes, the flight attendants were supposed to do a lav. check when they were preparing for final. I am good friends with the American Airlines agent who met the aircraft at Terminal 5 of O'Hare, and his only responsibilities were to put the bridge on, empty the plane (of pax and crew), and do a quick walk through (sniff check).
The article is incorrect in stating that the person was found while being cleaned at another terminal. The "Cabin Service" Fleet Service Clerks were on the plane right after my friend finished his checks. to do the usual cleaning. They were the ones to find the guy while the plane was at T-5.

Oh, I forgot about another one...My mom's uncle died from a heart attack on a flight from JFK-LAX. Supposedly his death was partly the impetus for United putting defibrillators on their aircraft.
