**Passport Update**

For any of you guys that need to get your passport, you may or may not be aware of the delay. The average seems to be 12 weeks with normal processing.

Well, I submitted my application on the 8th, paid for expedited processing, and it shipped today. Big difference.

So, if you want/need it fast, pay the extra cash.

Another hint is if you're already overseas, you can get same-day service free of charge on many passport issues like getting additional pages. You just goto the embassy and they'll hook it up.

I think it depends on the part of the country you're in. I applied end of January, received it towards the end of March. Boyfriend applied 2 weeks after me and just received it last week! I think as it got closer to the summer travel season, processing centers really got overwhelmed, and of course, the government didn't hire nearly enough people to handle the onslaught of applications. Neighbors of mine paid for expediting and STILL waited 8 weeks for theirs. Go figure!

I wouldn't have paid the extra cash for quick processing if I were you... I mean really... most people that need passports that quick are guys that need it for a 121 interview...

oh... wait a minute... hmmmmmm...

;)

Back to the original post...

I think all the passport offices are jammed because of the earlier required passport rule for Mexico and Canada. However I read the other day that the rule has been rescinded, mainly because of all the headaches the government caused themselves.

Another classic example of bureaucracy gone wrong!

No its people waiting to the last minute. We knew about the rule what a year in advance. You should have a passport anyways.

I think ultimately it might be a good thing.

Perhaps it will make the average Joe think about international travel above and beyond the world showcase area of EPCOT.

More people traveling and discovering that the French are friendly, the Germans are nothing like "Sprockets" and the Italians are nothing like "The Sopranos" it might do some good.

It really ticked me off when I went to France and got NO stamp in my passport. Yet I got one in Philly on the way back. Gee thanks.

More Americans need to lower their noses and travel outside North America, just remember when you go that your not in America anymore so don't act like morons.

I don't think anyone in CDG's even seen my passport as I have a French work visa.

If you want a stamp, Germany will certainly stamp your passport!

When my clients complain that their passport wasn't stamped, I tell them, "Ya have to ask for a stamp in a lot of places".

And yes, Americans need to get out more, for sure!
