Passport Renewal - Regular or Large Book?

Hi guys,

I’m getting ready to renew my passport and am trying to figure out if I should stick with a normal 28-page book or check off the option for the larger 52-page book? In my first 10 years I’ve only filled 3 pages with stamps, but I don’t know if career progress and possible increased international travel would have me fill up a normal book faster over the next 10 years… what size passport book is everyone using?

Thanks I’m advance!

The regular book is fine. Half the time they don’t stamp it anyway, and you can always get pages added I believe. Especially if you have plans to get a 2nd passport.

Apparently as of some date, they don’t let you add pages, hence why some suggest checking off the Large Book option since it’s no extra cost… but I carry mine in my shirt pocket and don’t want the added bulk if I don’t need it.

Unless you plan on a non-rev extravaganza a regular book is fine. I came within a half page once of filling up a regular book mainly via non-rev adventures, but hardly ever get a stamp as working crew. Got one the other week just for fun since it had been awhile.

The 2nd passport is more useful for countries that require visas and if you have to send your passport off for awhile while it processes.

If you plan on going to places that require a visa, just remember that the sticker will often cover an entire page and then they use the page next to that to stamp. Two pages could be mostly used up just for one trip.

I looked into getting extra pages added abroad in one or two consulates that did that, and it seemed annoying because they needed it for a day or two, so instead I just filled that particular passport and got a new one a little early.

Get the big book!

But maybe I'm biased after filling 88 pages of non-rev trips. :D

Thanks for the info… I’ll take a chance with the regular. I’ve got two young kids and my current job (135) doesn’t have non-Rev benefits, so the only stamps I get are from the occasional Bahamas overnight.

Right on, if you change up in the future always easy to add a 2nd passport as needed too.

Crew almost never get stamped, even in the most paperwork generating countries (I'm looking at you Japan).
Australia and NZ have also stopped for passengers. I was used to not getting stamped for work, but it was weird not getting one as a pax in the past few years…

When I did my "summer of FRA" I got an additional stamp sheet from the Paßkontrolle folks, some other countries than germany probably offer that too.
