Part 61 or Part 141

So here is the situation. I am taking a part 141 instrument ground school at a local college. The college does not have its own planes so I, as a student, am using an instructor at the local FBO.

My question is, can I do the part 141 ground school and do the flying part 61 and meet the part 61 minimums?

You're going to have to. Without an airplane, they can't have a 141 flight training program. Sounds like they just did the 141 ground school.

I'm not really sure how you're going to benefit from this though, do you get college credit for it?

Most colleges that don't have planes tell you to use a specific flight school and should give you the appropriate ground school (61,141) sounds weird at your school.

The college is Metropolitan state college of Denver and I do get credit for the course. They tell the students that they can choose whatever flight school you want.

Yes, a 141 ground school graduation certificate can be used to prove you met the part 61 ground training requirements when you go for your practical test.

For part 61 you don't need ground school at all. You need to know the information and be able to pass the written test. Get an endorsement from your ground school instructor to take the test, then take the results of the test to your local FBO.

Yeah, it's a 141 ground program only. I guess since you're getting credit for it you might as well do it but.......aside from that it doesn't mean a whole lot.
